About the Role
The Nickel West’s Planning & Technical team is accountable for all the Resource Engineering related disciplines of the Nickel West business, including Geoscience, Mine Planning, Geotechnical Engineering, Water & Closure Planning and Studies.
Reporting to the Manager Mine Planning, the Superintendent Mine Planning & Scheduling plays an integral role in leading the team of engineers responsible for delivering mine plans and mine designs within the Monthly to 2-Year horizon (inclusive of yearly Budget) for both underground and open-cut mines, ensuring alignment with the strategic plans.
In this pivotal leadership role, you will draw upon your excellent technical and stakeholder engagement skills to foster effective and mutually beneficial relationships with key Operational Managers and Superintendents across the business, as well as Technical and support functions. Your experience managing teams in a complex multi-faceted environment will be key to your success as you influence a positive, productive, and collaborative team environment.
In addition, this position will focus on the following:
- Identify and frame the risks and opportunities associated with the operation, managing change, and communicating the operating strategy without compromising on quality and sustainability, whilst maximising productivity
- Understand the economic drivers that underpin both revenue and cost within the operation to ensuring these are effectively leveraged through the mine schedule
- Lead, coach and foster a high performing culture within the Planning & Scheduling team.
- Continuously improve internal processes within the Production Planning team and the wider Planning & Technical function
- Actively influencing professionals within and outside the Planning & Scheduling team as well as stakeholders across multiple levels of the organisation.
- Formulate feasible production forecasts and schedules that account for safety, environmental and cultural heritage considerations, as well as volume and cost requirements
About You
To be successful in this role you will be degree qualified Mining Engineer with excellent technical knowledge combined with outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Complementing your technical expertise, you will be team oriented, and relationship focused, with a demonstrated track record in achieving results.
Your passion for risk management and continuous improvement will be evident in how you engage and influence others to drive effective business outcomes.
Your demonstrated ability to nurture cohesive, high performing teams who search for ways to innovate and add value will further contribute to your success in this role.
In addition to demonstrated ability to consolidate and analyse information, you will have the skills and knowledge to provide critical thinking and solution-focused attitude.
This role is well suited for those looking to bring their mine planning skills to large-scale open pit and underground mining operations in both mine planning and execution space.
Required:
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering (or related discipline)
- Experience in a large-scale open pit mining and/or underground operation in both mine planning and execution space.
Desired:
- Experience leading teams of technical professionals
- Passionate about active coaching and mentoring of the team, facilitating, and enabling their personal and professional development
- Strong focus on continuous improvement in the mine planning and operational space
- Experience in mine design and mine planning is essential
- Knowledge of CAD and Scheduling software packages is highly regarded
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills are required to influence stakeholders across multiple organisational levels in the delivery of positive business outcomes.
We are committed to supporting employment with Western Australia. To be considered for this role, you must currently reside in WA or be willing to relocate to WA for the duration of your employment. A relocation package will be provided for interstate applicants.
Location
Nickel West Mt Keith is located 460 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie in the Northern Goldfields. Nickel West Mt Keith is a surface mining operation with multiple open pits and a concentrator plant. The operation is surrounded by pastoral stations, with the nearest townships being Leinster and Wiluna. There’s plenty to keep you entertained in the Mt Keith Village. Take the heat off the day and head to the pool – or join in any number of social activities. Employees commute to and from Perth on a fly in / fly out roster or form regional areas on a drive in / drive out roster.
This role typically works on a 5/2/4/3 FIFO roster however flexible arrangements can be accommodated
