About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Mine Production Surface, this role is responsible for safe operation of one of the largest quarries in Australia, operating the largest backfill plant in Australia, and supporting surface ore movement to the ROM to keep stable surface processing. Managing a team of both direct and contract employees, this role is also responsible for setting the culture of improvement while connecting with suppliers and customers to get the most out of the existing plant. 

As we progress our plans to implement Paste Backfill over the next two years, your ability to engage with the project teams while understanding the technical requirements of operating a paste plant will be key to building a lasting legacy.

This role is based at our Olympic Dam mine site on 5/2, 4/3 basis and can be offered as FIFO ex-Adelaide, DIDO or Residential. 

In this role you will:

  • Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader, engaging, developing and coaching your team
  • Build business partnerships and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders internal and external to the business
  • Positively shape culture in alignment with the BHP Charter Values
  • Lead and develop a team of technical and operational mining professionals
  • Identify, build and develop team capability through ongoing and regular coaching and development  
  • Build effective relationships across multiple mine departments to support the delivery of improved production
  • Encourage and promote continuous improvement by constantly looking for opportunities to improve work practices and procedures
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to support customer group by leveraging BOS practices

About You

  • Previous mining operations experience, ideally coupled with exposure to processing
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or an aligned discipline along with significant operational experience
  • Experience with surface and underground mining is advantageous
  • Practical experience with Contractor Management
  • Project management and delivery exposures will be well regarded
  • Experience implementing continuous improvement strategies with financial and commercial acumen
  • The ability to engage and find positive outcomes with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated foundational leadership experience and engagement of teams that support high quality and engaged delivery
