About the Role

This is a leadership and technical role within the Caval Ridge Mine Scheduling team accountable for delivery of the mine production schedule across several planning horizons.  This includes management of the mine production schedule, communication of key outputs, and providing direction to the production execution teams to enable delivery against the mine site Budget and SRF commitments. The position is accountable for the management of direct reports in the scheduling team. 

This role is based at the Caval Ridge Mine, Central Queensland on a Fly-In Fly-Out or Residential, 4/3 Monday to Thursday roster.

Reporting to the Manager of Mine Scheduling this position is responsible for managing a professional team of schedulers to establish and maintain a safe and standardised mine site while interacting with multiple processes across site operations.

About you

As a successful candidate, you will possess a tertiary qualification in Mining Engineeringor other related discipline (Engineering, Geology, Survey) with previous experience working at an Open Cut Coal Mining operation. You will have:

  • Mandatory Qualifications of S1, S2, S3 & G2
  • 5+ years’ experience in scheduling, truck and shovel, draglines, and dozer push design and/or execution.
  • Demonstrated people leadership and production experience at minimum Supervisor level within a Coal Mining environment, preferably to have had some exposure at Superintendent level.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills and knowledge in open pit mining, scheduling theory and concepts, products and accessories, tools & applications, operations, and field management.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, coach, lead change and develop established teams of experienced people
  • Extensive mine engineering design (long term plans) and schedule experience (short range forecast and budget).
  • A demonstrated ability in continuous improvements around Safety, Cost and Productivity
  • Uphold the BHP Charter Values and Code of Business Conduct and comply with our Safety and Health Management System.
  • Provide leadership and effective management of the Mine Scheduling team for seamless integration with execution teams; furthermore through continuous improvement, toward technical excellence.
  • Lead the identification and management of schedule risks, providing ongoing communications to relevant stakeholders and solution identification including prioritization and realignment of mine priorities.
  • Encourage and develop a collaborative relationship with operational superintendents to deliver the operational budget in accordance with changing conditions; and,
  • Foster a safe to speak up environment to team members to work effectively with customers to achieve the best business outcomes.
  • Be a safety leader, creating a culture of care through engaging, developing and coaching the Mine Scheduling teams.
