About the role

The role of the Superintendent Mining and NPI is to provide technical Operational Readiness (OR) leadership, advice and support to growth projects at Robe Valley Operations. The role leads at a tactical level to the design and implementation of processes, practices and tools to facilitate Mining and NPI Operational Readiness.

You will be part of the Operational Readiness team that goes above and beyond to successfully integrate safe and high-performing assets that exceed business expectations, contributing to a safely operable, maintainable, and reliable project result. 

Reporting to the Manager Operational Readiness WAN & RV you will:

  • Lead your team inputting into engineering design and mine planning activities through the study phases.
  • Create value by developing, implementing, and communicating the operational readiness execution plan, focused on mining and NPI related aspects including; project controls, reporting, risk management, and planning.
  • Align people by establishing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders who influence and impact both the operational readiness program and the studies.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement through capital and safety in design workshops.
  • Provide engineering guidance for the procurement of new equipment and tooling.
  • Role model safety leadership by striving for zero harm and demonstrating the Rio Tinto safety culture.

About you

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of mining operations and supporting processes (drill & blast, loading,
  • Hauling (AHS), mine planning, scheduling, grade control, organisational planning, applied
  • Geotechnics, geology, and hydrology) with minimum relevant experience of 10yrs.
  • Demonstrated work experience in a leadership capacity within mining operations or engineering.
  • Knowledge of and work experience in an environment with AHS, preferably with Komatsu systems.
  • Understanding of mine engineering approaches, systems and processes, preferably also direct work experience in mine engineering.
  • Understanding of organisational change management.
  • Knowledge of project management (scoping, planning, scheduling, resource planning, and cost estimation) and project site activities.
  • Exposure to risk management and business improvement methodologies.
  • Well-developed stakeholder influencing, engagement and communication skills.
  • Proven ability in safety leadership in the mining or relevant industry.
  • Capability to write conclusive reports, plans and strategies.
  • Mature approach to issue resolution and strong decision-making skills.
