About the role

Our Rail Network Renewals (RNR) team at our 7 Mile operation in Dampier are seeking a standout leader to join the team.

Reporting to the Manager, Rail Network Renewals, you will be responsible for the delivery of the RioTinto Rail Network Renewals Resurfacing Support Scope as well and delivering multiple minor renewal packages. Leading the way for the team, you will also be responsible for managing the day-to-day construction activities of contractors on site and ensuring construction progress on schedule.

Your duties will include, but not be limited to :

• Direct and control construction activities on RioTinto Rail Network to ensure that standards of quality, cost, safety and performance are observed and that time schedules are met
• Undertake construction administration and delegate responsibilities
• Interface with other engineering functions
• Ensure sufficient resources (plant and people) are provided on a project so that it can be delivered safely
• Build a capable renewal team and culture to successfully deliver in line with RioTinto's core values

About you

Along with solid leadership capability and experience in the Rail industry, you will also hold a minimum 5 years’ experience managing construction activities on project sites.

Your strong communication skills will be critical in this role, including strong negotiation and influencing skills. Your ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally will be paramount to the success of this role.

Where you will be working

This opportunity is being offered either residentially, in the heart of the coastal town of Karratha, with a short drive to site in Dampier at 7 Mile, or FIFO from Perth. The roster will be offered as a 9 day fortnight. We operate 200 locomotives on more than 1,700 kilometres of track in the Pilbara, transporting ore from 16 mines to four port terminals. The average return distance of these trains is about 800 kilometres with the average journey cycle, including loading and dumping, taking approximately 40 hours.
