The Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter receives nickel concentrate from our mining operations in Leinster and Mt Keith as well as from our Third Party Feed concentrator in Kambalda. Nickel West Kalgoorlie incorporates a flash furnace smelter, converters and an acid plant which has the capacity to produce up to 105,000 tonnes per annum of nickel matte.
About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and influential people-leader to join our Kalgoorlie team.
This is a residential opportunity in Kalgoorlie or Perth Based with weekly travel to Kalgoorlie. We offer a generous housing allowance for the successful candidate to live residentially in Kalgoorlie.
The Superintendent Small Projects and Modifications role is responsible for managing the site Capital Project activities through the full project lifecycle from inception to execution at the Kalgoorlie Smelter. A key component of the role is development of future Capital Project plans at the Kalgoorlie smelter. The role will work closely with both operations and maintenance departments in providing guidance and development of capital plans and longer-term initiatives. The role will report to the Engineering Manager.
Duties of this role will include:
- Lead and develop a multi-discipline team of Project Managers, Engineers and Construction Supervisors to safely and efficiently deliver a large and complex project portfolio;
- Set and maintain standards, and provide project management governance on all site projects;
- Work with stakeholders across departments to align initiatives to a common goal;
- Manage the capital development and 5 Year capital planning process;
- Manage the overall site Capital Project budgeting and forecasting process.
About You
- Proactive approach, demonstrates deep functional leadership capabilities and committed to striving towards high standards;
- Experience in leading a team of multi-discipline professionals;
- Experience in an engineering field within heavy industry or construction, with exposure leading capital project delivery;
- Solid understanding of project management principles and experience in project development and delivery;
- Understanding of commercial context and ability to make value driven financial decisions;
- Good networking and communication abilities to co-ordinate and influence and align stakeholders;
- Excellent written and verbal skills with demonstrated ability to synthesise information for technical and business audiences;
- Embraces and drives BHP’s commitment to a safe, respectful and enjoyable workplace.
