About the role

The Contractor Management (CM) division within Rio Tinto Iron Ore, has been designed to improve how our operations partner with our contractors, who make up 50% of our workforce. Being a critical element of our labour team, this division is responsible to ensure our contractors are ready to work on site and go home safely at the end of every shift.

In this role you will ensure our suppliers meet the required standard to work effectively and safely on our operating sites. The role is responsible for onboarding suppliers efficiently and effectively, and for maintaining their compliance status in accordance with the RTIO contractor management standards.

In line with Rio Tinto's values, you will create a safe and inclusive workplace. Reporting to Manager Contractor Management Onboarding & Systems you will:

  • Conduct supplier exposure reviews to understand the supplier risk profile
  • Support suppliers in Avetta enrolment and offboarding
  • Conduct supplier pre-engagement workshops
  • Support suppliers in worker set up
  • Support suppliers through initial engagement on site
  • Support suppliers to maintain ongoing compliance
  • Provide Avetta expertise to support problem/issue resolution
  • Manage supplier exemptions
  • Train/coach suppliers and site personnel in the use of Avetta
  • Report on overall supplier compliance status

What you’ll bring

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate the following qualities:

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team
  • Sound auditing experience, preferably having undertaken audits of safety systems/processes in a mining environment
  • Exposure to actively applying the 5 steps of contractor management within a Rio Tinto context highly regarded
  • Understand the fundamentals of what is expected of suppliers working on our operational sites with exposure to RTIO operations highly regarded
  • Outstanding verbal communication and influencing skills
  • Highly organised with the ability to work with multiple stakeholder group at any given point
  • Understanding of service delivery and continuousimprovement principles
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation and improvement
  • Proven ability to assess and solve problems in a complex environment
  • Exposure to actively applying the 5 steps of contractor management within Rio Tinto highly regarded

Where you’ll be working

In the Pilbara region of Western Australia, we own an integrated portfolio of iron ore assets: a world-class, integrated network of 16 mines, four independent port terminals, a 1,700 kilometre rail network and related infrastructure – all designed to respond rapidly to changes in demand.

This role is based in Perth, at our head office in Central Park, and working Monday to Friday. We want you to have a great work/life balance, so the days, hours, location of work are flexible. Frequent travel (50% of your time) to the Pilbara is required to ensure ongoing and effective engagement with our frontline stakeholders (both RTIO and Suppliers).
