Superintendent Rail Operations – Cape Lambert (Wickham)

About the Role
We are looking for a Superintendent Operations to lead the operations team based at our Cape Lambert rail facility in the heart of the Pilbara region in Ngarlama country. Responsible for ensuring the safe and productive movement of trains interfacing at our Port and Mine Operations. Our team is responsible for safe and efficient management of rail operations servicing our Cape Lambert Car Dumpers, supporting our mainline AutoHaul® operations, servicing our rolling stock maintenance department, as well as our manually operated Robe Valley / Deepdale mainline train services (located within Robe River Kuruma country).

The role will be back-to-back with another Operational Superintendent working an 8/6 roster residential in Wickham or FIFO from Perth.
Reporting to the Manager Operations, you will be:
- Managing the safe processing of trains through the Cape Lambert operating yard and our Robe Valley mainline operations
- Ensuring teams are competent to safely operate and support our rail operations
- Fostering a culture of continuous improvement, supporting the team in the implementation of improvement initiatives, competency training and technical advances
- Preparing and managing capital and operating budgets to achieve business outcomes
- Managing the critical interface aspects across the rail and port networks
- Ensuring compliance with the relevant statutory legislative provisions
About You
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Experience managing large operational teams
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated experience in evolving an inclusive and engaged workforce
- Demonstrated previous operating experience in Rail, Supply Chain & Logistics or bulk materials handling environment
- Exposure to financial management and operational budgets
- Incident investigations (e.g. Essential Factors or ICAM) skills
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Tertiary qualification in Logistics and Supply Change Management or a business discipline
- Business improvement experience
- Experience in project management
- Formal frontline leadership qualifications

Where you will be working
This role will be based in Wickham – WA approximately 40kms from city of Karratha.
We operate 200 locomotives on more than 1,700 kilometres of track in the Pilbara, transporting ore from 16 mines to four port terminals. The average return distance of these trains is about 800 kilometres with the average journey cycle, including loading and dumping, taking approximately 40 hours.
Our network is the largest privately owned and operated heavy haul rail system in Australia, and as we focus on the future, our vision is to become the greatest heavy haul railway in the world.
