We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Superintendent Operations to lead the Dampier Operations team, fostering a strong, positive culture while driving operational excellence and ensuring optimal performance.

As a strong people leader, reporting to the Manager, Operations Dampier you will;

  • Execute your budget to meet volume and quality objectives

  • Foster and communicate a positive safety culture: Promote safety awareness and ensure compliance in all operations. Lead by example to prioritize safety in all activities.

  • Drive continuous improvement: Identify and implement improvement opportunities using Rio Tinto best practices to enhance efficiency and operational performance.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team: Provide guidance and support to team members, fostering a performance-driven culture while focusing on professional development.

  • Oversee training, safety compliance, scheduling, and productivity: Manage plant operations training, ensure safety compliance, and optimize scheduling to meet productivity goals.

  • Define staffing and development needs: Assess staffing requirements for Plant Operations and implement strategies for talent development and retention.

  • Engage with key stakeholders to deliver objectives that best support our integrated system

  • Ensure compliance with legislation and obligations: Ensure adherence to industry legislation and regulatory requirements, maintaining full compliance in all operations.

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of safe operations and behavior fundamentals, the ability to work well under pressure while meeting multiple deadlines, and a demonstrated understanding of Planning horizons and integration.

We’re looking for someone with a strategic mindset, process-driven approach, and a strong mechanical aptitude. Additionally, experience navigating recent changes in Work Health and Safety (WHS) to support supervisors through these transitions is highly regarded.

Where you will be working

Our four independent shipping terminals at two locations, Cape Lambert and Dampier, are managed as a single port system. Each terminal has facilities for train unloading, product stockpiling and blending, and ship loading. This role is located in Dampier, within the Pilbara region of Western Australia with most team members living in nearby Karratha.
