Operations near and far

Located in the Great Sandy Desert in East Pilbara, Western Australia, Telfer is a fly in out fly out operation from Perth which recognizes the importance of work-life balance.  Our comfortable, well furnished rooms include Foxtel, and our site offers quality food with healthy options, medical care, sports and recreation activities. Families are welcomed several times a year to open days to support our community feel at Telfer. 

Who we’re looking for

Reporting into the Manager – Ore Processing, the primary purpose of this position is to provide safe, efficient and cost-effective operation of Telfer’s ore processing department within the ore treatment plant in accordance with legal requirements and company objectives.

You will be responsible for providing leadership and operational direction to the work teams, ensuring resources, capacity and capability are aligned to the work plans. Direct responsibility from primary crushers to tailings storage facility (TSF), including heap leach for execution of operating strategies.

A few key responsibilities will include;

  • Supporting the Safety Management System ensuring a safety-first work culture
  • Ensuring safe systems of work are in place for all activities; ensuring personnel are trained, inducted and competent to perform work; ensuring competent supervision
  • Managing compliance in accordance with the parameters established for the metallurgical operation of the ore processing plant
  • Management of the WAVE system to ensure EDGE project delivery
  • Participating in site business planning and PoaP
  • Communicating the PoaP and ensuring team ownership
  • Ensuring work plans and resource needs are developed and communicated in a timely manner
  • Monitoring and control budget vs actuals; escalating issues and actions plans to address under performance
  • The leadership and operational direction to the Ore Processing work teams
  • Responsible for a team of 2 direct reports and up to 50 indirect reports
  • Performance reporting and documentation
  • Actively engage and collaborate with central support functions and Peers on other NML sites
  • Driving a high-quality safety performance and culture

You will be safety focused, team oriented, enable and drive continuous improvement and be willing to strive for results.  Your area of responsibility will carry out from the ore delivery / crusher through to the TSF and concentrate shed in Port Hedland, including the dump leach

Ideally you will also have the following:

  • Previous operational ore processing experience in the mining industry
  • Previous Superintendent and / or leadership experience
  • Experience in a Gold Processing Plant is highly desired
  • Proven frontline leadership experience within large-scale complex operations
  • Experience with shutdown planning and coordination (Desirable)
  • SAP ERP Knowledge (Desirable)
  • Current C class drivers licences (Essential)

This is a FIFO full time role from Perth on a 8days on 6days off roster.
