We are seeking a Superintendent Process Control to join our technical department working alongside some of the very best refinery experts in the industry. As our Superintendent of Process Control, you'll report directly to the Manager - Technical and be responsible for leading the development and implementation of our process control systems. You'll oversee and manage the team responsible for process control, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities to help them reach their full potential.
Reporting to the Manager – Technical, your role and responsibilities will include:
- Oversee and manage the team responsible for process control, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities to help them reach their full potential
- Lead the development and implementation of advanced control and automation systems for our refinery
- Manage the process control budget
- Develop and maintaining relationships within the organization, ensuring that we have the support and resources we need to succeed
- Support control and automation delivery for refinery projects, making sure that everything runs smoothly from start to finish.
What you’ll bring
- A demonstrated commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- A technical background such as an Engineering Degree or similar in Process/Chemical engineering, or Computer Science
- Demonstrated experience in industry experience is helpful for the role
- A passion for developing your people and enabling their success
- Experience in Control and Automation systems – Preferably Honeywell

Where you’ll be working
With production beginning in 2004 at our Yarwun alumina refinery, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year.
Around 700 people support the operation, with an additional 350 contractors on site each year as part of scheduled maintenance shutdown activities. Thanks to its ‘Industry 4.0’ focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialling new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto’s innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC).
