About the Role

Based in our Brisbane office, the Superintendent Product Movement, Shipping and Rail Access enables the logistics department managing a team responsible for shipping and rail access, product movement and commercial performance of logistics service providers.  The role reports to the Logistics Manager within the IROC+ (Integrated Remote Operations Centre) and sits on the Logistics Leadership team.  This world-class control center coordinates the near-term scheduling, planning and controlling of our east coast mining operations from a central location and delivers performance improvements across our coal value chain in a sustainable way.  It’s an exciting time to be part of the team as we integrate the BHP Operating System (BOS) and emerging technologies to drive the next phase of supply chain performance improvement.

Key accountabilities

  • Safety leadership, demonstrating a commitment to all activities that support a zero harm work environment for our people physically and psychologically
  • Manages commercial performance and compliance of third party rail and port contracts, including cost management activities, variations and ToP liability 
  • Manages Rail Access ensuring strategies support planning and deviation teams to achieve short range forecasts 
  • Leads a team responsible for product movement records for rail and shipping activities ensuring all reporting requirements meet Company and Statutory requirements 
  • Leads a team responsible for issuing operational instructions and shipping documentation ensuring alignment with sales contract requirements and statutory requirements for export of coal
  • Understanding of end-to-end Supply Chain to enhance efficiency, drive optimization, and maximize value 
  • Identifies and assesses risks using BHP's risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes

About You

Ideally, you will hold a tertiary qualification or similar with experience within logistics, mining and/or mineral resources industry. Previous experience in the rail industry and bulk ports, will be highly regarded. You will have the opportunity to utilize your advanced engagement and collaboration skills in managing stakeholder relationships. Likewise, you will have excellent interpersonal skills and a high standard of oral and written communication skills.   You will also possess the following: 

  • Demonstrated commercial management of logistics contracts with experience in rail and/or port 
  • Understanding of the Central Queensland Coal Network and the Queensland Coal outbound supply chain will be an advantage 
  • Advanced stakeholder management skills with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Capacity to identify, analyze and develop commercial opportunities to leverage value creation opportunities; 
  • Strong computer skills with SAP experience an advantage, along with the ability to learn new systems  
  • Demonstrated success as a system level thinker, problem solver and the ability to lead and learn with agility in a dynamic environment
