About the Role
Reporting directly to the Manager Smelter Operation you will become a key member of the Smelter Operations team, managing the ongoing operation, improvement and optimisation of the Smelter Casting area.
This is an Olympic Dam based position on a 5/2, 4/3 (flex) basis with FIFO from Adelaide or residential options available.
In this role you will:
- Verify material risk critical controls for the Smelter and ensure it is appropriately deployed and is effective.
- Drive the consistent expectations, understanding and application of Smelter processes to enable compliance.
- Foster positive relationships through effective communication and open consultation within your team and a wide group of stakeholders internally and externally to BHP
- Manage your team to apply the BHP Charter Values, global level policies and statutory obligations whilst maintaining an overriding commitment to Health, Safety & Environment.
- Guide field leadership and coaching of Supervisors to lift the standards of engagement, housekeeping and improving the safety culture.
- Drive quality investigations in Safety incidents (ICAM) and Process Variation (RCA)
- Focus and coach team members on Process Safety and improve process safety outcomes.
- Drive operational discipline to execute week zero plan.
- Prepare, manage and review operating budgets for your area as well as monitor against monthly cost drivers.
About You
- Relevant trade or tertiary qualifications supporting this leadership role.
- Experience in Smelter Operations
- Exceptional communication and the ability to engage and influence across a multitude of levels.
- An agile thinker with the ability to collaborate with others to achieve results in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience implementing continuous improvement strategies with a focus on safety, culture, productivity and cost outcomes.
- Foundational leadership where you effectively manage and engage with a diverse work group, support and promote culture where it is Safe to Speak up.
- Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in 'Safety Leadership.
