We are seeking a Superintendent to join our Production department working alongside some of the very best refinery experts in the industry. This is a great opportunity for an experienced leader with a technical background who can lead large and diverse teams to successfully deliver our annual plan.
Reporting to the Manager – Production, your role and responsibilities will include:
- Lead, create and maintain a climate in which individuals feel included, valued and all team members are clear about responsibilities, expectations, and objectives.
- Utilise the business tools and activities to create development opportunities for your team.
- Accountable for HSE performance and compliance within the clarification production team;
- Ensure the digestion process is running to its optimal capability for production, product quality and raw material consumption;
- Develop, implement and maintain systems and procedures to maximise production capability and area drumbeat;
- Troubleshoot process deviations from target in a timely manner and implement solutions;
- Deliver production planning for forward and upcoming area work or shutdowns.
What you’ll bring
- A demonstrated commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- A passion for developing your people and enabling their success
- The ability to be effective in a production/operations environment
- Demonstrated experience in heavy industry such as manufacturing/processing- Aluminium industry experience would be advantageous but not essential
- A technical background would be highly advantageous such as a Trade Qualification,Engineering Degree or similar

Where you’ll be working
With production beginning in 2004 at our Yarwun alumina refinery, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year.
Around 700 people support the operation, with an additional 350 contractors on site each year as part of scheduled maintenance shutdown activities. Thanks to its ‘Industry 4.0’ focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialling new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto’s innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC).
