About the Role
At the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter, the Superintendent Production role is to lead a team of process technicians, supervisors and coordinators in safely operating a nickel sulphide integrated Flash & Electric Furnace. The role has responsibility over occupational safety, process safety and risk management for the Furnace area, with a number of unique risks relating to molten metal and tapping activities. Management of operating efficiencies with respect to cost and recovery is also a key part of the role, with a particular focus on stable operation and process control.
Reporting to the Manager Production, you will:
- Lead a team of 50 process technicians, supervisors and coordinators
- Manage and improve safety outcomes for the team, ensuring standards are met and operational discipline is maintained for both occupational and process safety
- Utilize the BHP Operating System to engage frontline teams in problem solving, waste reduction and improvement projects
- Manage an operating budget to ensure cost targets are met
- Execute cost, recovery and throughput improvement projects as per the site business plan
- Ensure the production teams monitor critical process safety variables, execute adequate responses to out of specification and participate in process safety improvement
- Work with a diverse range of teams (maintenance, engineering, etc.) to ensure required business outcomes are achieved
About You
- Strong people leadership skills with experience in coaching and developing people from different backgrounds and experience levels
- Strong commitment to safety both occupational and process
- Demonstrated sound analytical and problem solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate and interact with a wide variety of people
- Ability to work within a flexible and dynamic team environment
- Exposure to LEAN management or Shingo principles will be highly valued
- Experience managing an operational budget will be highly valued
Location
Nickel West Kalgoorlie has the capacity to produce up to 110,000 tonnes per annum of nickel matte. Nickel West Kalgoorlie incorporates a flash furnace smelter, converters and an acid plant.
