Who we’re looking for

Reporting into the Open Pit Manager, the primary purpose of this position is provide safe, efficient and cost-effective operational control of Telfer’s Open Pit section in accordance with legal requirements and company objectives.

Provide leadership and operational direction to the Open Pit work teams, ensuring resources, capacity and capability are aligned to the work plans. Responsibility for Open Pit performance reporting and documentation; drive and monitor continuous improvement focused on value and cost reduction.

This is a FIFO full time role from Perth on a 8days on 6days off roster. 

To succeed in this role, you will be a safety-conscious, motivated and supportive Production Superintendent at our multifaceted mine site, you will provide leadership and operational direction to the Open Pit work teams, ensuring resources, capacity and capability are aligned to the work plans.

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide project oversight on improvement initiatives and execute using best practice methodology
  • Drive and monitor Open Pit department costs – budget vs actuals
  • Management of explosives and compliance to the rigs
  • Identify, support and implement improvement projects to improve performance across the open pit Contractor and Newcrest mining teams
  • Ensure compliance of contractor activity; identify and manage risks with contractor’s resource planning, training and development of key personnel to optimise delivery of agreed targets
  • Continue to drive our respect to work culture
  • Support the Safety Management System ensuring a safety-first work culture

Additionally, you will have a solid understanding of metalliferous mining operations and the natural ability to build relationships and manage stakeholders. Your excellent leadership and conflict management skills combined with previous experience in contractor mining management (or willingness to learn) will see you promote a site wide, team-based culture between employees, departments and business partners, where you will have motivation to be out there when required and a preparedness to support your team.

Ideally you will have experience in being in a Superintendent or Leadership position and have experience in a technical and maintenance background.

An advantage for this role, you may also have had exposure to:

  • Demonstrated absolute commitment and leadership in providing a safe working environment
  • Western Australian Quarry Managers Certificate of Competency
  • Proven experience in a leadership position in Open Pit Production mining (Highly Desirable)
  • Exposure in open-pit dewatering systems and understanding of drill & blast
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work and liaise with different departments
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement through excellent planning and execution skills
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite and SAP or a similar system
