About Mt Arthur Coal

New South Wales Energy Coal consists of the Mt Arthur Coal open-cut energy coal mine in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia. The site produces coal for international customers in the energy sector. The mobile mining fleet consists of 70 dump trucks which are loaded by electric rope shovels and hydraulic excavators, and supported by a variety of ancillary equipment.

About the Role

Following BHP’s closure announcement of Mt Arthur, the asset continues to work through our ‘path to 2030’ with tight integration between our BAU operations and the Transition Project. Our priority will continue to be safe and sustainable operations, our people, and positively impacting the communities that we operate in, here in the Hunter Valley.

As the Superintendent Resources at NSWEC’s Mt Arthur Mine you will be a member of our Technical Services leadership team where you will oversee and support a team of surveyors and geologists.

In this role you will:

  • Establish a culture of care by being a visible safety leader, whilst being well versed in engaging, developing, and coaching business wide site leaders
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to the team and support the succession planning within the business  
  • Identify, build, and develop production talent and capability across the team to ensure best in class talent retention and development
  • Ensure accurate and geological model development supporting the mine
  • Support and deliver Week 0 Coal Planning
  • Support geotechnical engineering requirements for the site
  • Proactively identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Communicating with other technical and operational staff members and teams to ensure long term productivity of the Mine

About You

We have a strong focus on finding individuals with the right values, leadership capability, and communication skills. Your demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring technical teams in a complex operational environment will be key to your success in this role. 

Demonstrated expertise across geology, geoscience, survey or mine planning complimented with experience within open cut mining is essential. Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills will also be critical in ensuring you build effective collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders across the business. 

In addition, the successful candidate will possess the following: 

  • Demonstrated success working within a similar position
  • Tertiary qualification in Geology, Geoscience, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering or equivalent is required
  • A proven track record when it comes to safety management
  • Demonstrated success building cohesive and inclusive teams
  • Strong communication skills, influencing abilities and a track record of achieving results
