About the role 

This is a permanent full-time role on a 4:3 roster, FIFO Darwin or Cairns. 

Reporting to the Manager Health, Safety & Risk, in a full-time position, you will govern and continuously improve the GEMCO Health, Hygiene and Safety Standards and associated procedures.

You will lead the development and implementation of the Training Management System, manage the central Training Team, and provide coaching and specialist support to senior and operational leadership team to embed changes and maintain compliance.

Some of your main responsibilities will include: 

  • Create and foster an inclusive workplace with a strong culture of care and accountability
  • Provide visible safety leadership by coaching employees and contractors in safe behaviours and routines
  • Work as an effective member of the HSRT management team to contribute to:
    • plan and implement the strategic direction of HSRT;
    • develop and be accountable for HSRT relevant commercial outcomes of the sites;
    • ensure that accountable activities are in the overall best interests of the sites.
  • Engage and collaborate with business stakeholders including front-line and management to ensure Health and Hygiene programs are relevant and effective
  • Lead and demonstrate a commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development through personal behaviours and leadership 
  • Lead and implement improvement initiatives to streamline and leverage key opportunities within the Business and Operations
  • Provide input into the development and review of business planning, training strategies, plans and performance targets
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with GEMCO Leadership, Operational and Functional teams
  • Implement, maintain and monitor safety critical risk controls as per operating discipline.
  • Encourage team members to drive effective hazard and risk identification, reporting and investigation to reduce incidents and injuries / illnesses.

To be considered for the role, you will have:

  • Degree qualified in Safety, Hygiene, Allied Health, or relevant trade/engineering field
  • Experience in a similar role within an Operational environment, leading effective teams of 5+ for a minimum of 3 years
  • In depth knowledge of Nationally Recognised Training and AQTF Standards
  • Sound understanding of Workers Compensation Insurance schemes and Injury Management processes
  • Proven skillset in developing and influencing operational practice within Health, Safety & Training
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation and influencing skills with the ability to present information in an engaging and effective manner, across all levels of the organization
  • Sound computer skills including Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience and knowledge of change management principles and methodologies
