Location: Perth, WA (with operational reach across sites and regions). Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday to Friday.
The Superintendent – Server & Storage sits within the Fortescue Integrated Technology (FIT) team and is accountable for the end-to-end ownership, stability, and evolution of Fortescue’s server, storage, and data platform environments across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud domains.
Reporting to the Senior Manager - Infrastructure & Operations, this role provides senior operational leadership to ensure infrastructure platforms are safe, secure, resilient, cost-effective, and fit for purpose, enabling critical business operations across mining, energy, corporate, and global functions.
It's an opportunity that balances operational excellence with platform modernisation, working closely with architecture, cyber security, cloud, service management, and application teams to ensure infrastructure services support current and future business needs.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Ownership & Operations
- Own the end-to-end management of server and storage platforms across on-premises, private cloud, and hybrid environments.
- Ensure platforms meet agreed availability, performance, security, and service level targets.
- Maintain strong operational hygiene across capacity, lifecycle, patching, backup, recovery, and resilience.
- Act as the senior escalation point for complex incidents, problems, and risks related to server and storage services.
Delivery Expectations
- Balance BAU and project activities to ensure delivery outcomes do not compromise live services, safety, or security.
- Partner with project, delivery, and product teams to ensure infrastructure solutions are production-ready, supportable, and transitioned effectively into operations.
- Provide clear ownership, prioritisation, and sequencing of delivery activities across internal teams and external partners.
Infrastructure Strategy & Roadmaps
- Contribute to infrastructure strategy and multi-year roadmaps, including modernisation, standardisation, and cloud integration.
- Identify and drive opportunities to reduce technical debt, improve resilience, increase automation, and optimise costs.
- Ensure infrastructure solutions align with enterprise architecture, cyber security, and operational standards.
Vendor & Partner Management
- Provide governance and oversight of infrastructure vendors and managed service partners.
- Ensure vendor performance, commercial outcomes, and service quality align with Fortescue standards and contracts.
- Drive effective escalation, issue resolution, and continuous improvement with partners.
Financial & Commercial Management
- Help manage budgets, forecasting, and cost drivers for server and storage platforms.
- Optimise infrastructure spend through lifecycle management, consumption visibility, and vendor negotiations.
- Provide transparent reporting on costs, risks, and platform performance to FIT leadership.
People & Team Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop high-performing infrastructure teams.
- Build a strong culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Set clear expectations, priorities, and outcomes, supporting capability uplift and succession planning.
Safety, Risk & Compliance
- Demonstrate visible safety leadership and ensure compliance with Fortescue HSES requirements.
- Ensure infrastructure platforms meet security, compliance, and audit obligations.
- Proactively identify, assess, and manage operational and technology risks.
Qualifications and Experience
- Extensive experience leading enterprise server, storage, and data platform environments in a large, complex organisation
- Demonstrated experience operating hybrid and cloud-integrated infrastructure platforms.
- Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing vendor and managed service relationships.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and people management skills.
- Strong track record partnering with senior stakeholders to align infrastructure capabilities with business needs.
- Deep knowledge of enterprise compute, storage, backup, and data protection technologies - eg VMware vSphere, Cisco UCS+MDS, Pure Storage, NetApp and Commvault and relevant management platforms.
- Strong understanding of hybrid cloud architectures and infrastructure lifecycle management.
- Working knowledge of security, risk, and compliance requirements within enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Understanding of IT service management principles as they relate to infrastructure operations.
- Tertiary qualification in Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Relevant infrastructure or cloud certifications are desirable.
