About the role

We are looking for a Superintendent Shutdown Management to play a key role in delivering the shutdown management strategy across Rio Tinto Iron Ore mine and coastal sites. This role is Perth based with frequent site travel required.

The role is part of the MP&E Asset Planning Team, and the initial focus will be the Pilbara Mines Fixed Plants, expanding to Ports, Rail and Heavy Mobile Equipment over time. This role is a great opportunity for a high calibre individual passionate about adding value to the way RTIO performs shuts.

Reporting to the Manager – Asset Planning and working in a collaborative team, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the shutdown labour co-ordination team
  • Providing feedback to our Tier one contract service providers on shut requirements and performance
  • Working with RTP on labour strategies to support MP&E requirements
  • Active involvement with the Contractor Management team
  • Leading a behavioural change in why we execute fixed plant shutdowns and how they are effectively measured
  • Participating in site shutdown management improvement workshops
  • Assisting in facilitation of central improvement programs, including the delivery of workshops
  • Creating a culture of sustainable improvement

About you:

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Maintenance Planning and/or a shut management background
  • Proven experience managing major shutdowns and outages in heavy industry
  • Previous experience in following structured Shut Management Processes
  • The ability to quickly form trusting relationships and demonstrate genuine passion for change processes
  • The ability to influence and coach stakeholders
  • Active communications skills to drive continuous improvement
  • The ability to work autonomously
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Where you’ll be working 

You will be Perth based with opportunity to work flexibly from home combined with time in our Central Park and Operations Centre offices. The team actively encourages and supports flexible work. This includes workdays, hours and location, in addition to flexible and part-time work schedules. Frequent site travel will be required.
