About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and influential Superintendent Site Improvement to join the Blackwater Mine Site Improvement team. Reporting to the Manager Site Improvement, this role will see you utilising your excellent influencing skills to lead and motivate others to achieve exceptional performance. Your innovative approach will help up us realise value to our business – focusing on breakthrough improvement activities, which are high value and high impact, creating sustainable solutions. You will also be a key leader supporting the maturity of our BHP Operating System. This role focuses on leading high value cross-department initiatives and activities, including:

  • Leading a portfolio of the key improvement projects, consisting of high impact initiatives targeted at key value drivers and site bottlenecks.
  • Leading and supporting high impact initiatives on safety, throughput and cost delivered to support operational plans and involve working across multiple teams and interfaces.
  • Coordinating and developing site Integrated Operations Plans and KPI cascade, including the implementation of site structures and routines to monitor and continuously develop initiatives which will help achieves site targets and aspirations.
  • Leading and supporting recovery plans on site to meet targets in the event of unplanned events with large safety or productivity impact with site Leaders and General Manager as sponsors.
  • Condensing complex strategic themes into digestible formats for written tactical reports and multi-level presentations.

About You

The successful candidate will have substantive experience in leading site-level or operational improvement initiatives. Mining or resources experience is not mandatory, and we welcome diverse industry backgrounds. Your exceptional analytical skills with attention to detail and strong organisational skills will ensure success in this role. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary, allowing you to build relationships across operations and functions. Site Improvement supports all operational areas including Mining Production, Mining Equipment Maintenance, Fixed Plant Maintenance and Processing Production, and a track record of influencing success at a senior leadership level will serve you well in this role. To be successful you will have to demonstrate the following:  

  • Strong leadership capabilities, with a track record of managing teams. Astute commercial  acumen, strategy development, change management, strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing capability to deliver value through an ‘influence-based’ role, with collaborative approach to finding practical solutions. Ability to create strong commercial business cases and presentations.
  • Strong organisational skills to implement structured routines and embed continuous improvement processes.
  • Capability to manage a portfolio of projects, and the ability to consolidate disparate initiatives across multiple departments into a whole-of-asset view.
  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline required with post graduate qualifications desirable.

Location In this full-time permanent position, you will be based at Blackwater, QLD, offering flexible travel arrangement or residential. You will be working on 5D2X roster.
