About the role

In this newly created team reporting to the Manager of Learning for aluminum’s Pacific Operations you will be responsible for the systems, data and reporting relative to learning across the frontline. What is also required is the consistent reporting across our business, ensuring legislative and safety compliance, enabling the business to understand and address competence and capability across its frontline workforce. You will lead and continue to build capability into a small team influencing stability and integrity in competency metrics, the simplification of existing learning management systems and delivery of simple and effective competency reporting to our operational customers.

Specifically, you will be responsible for:

• Leading and developing the reporting & governance team members
• Ownership & improvement of the competency data within the learning management systems including the process of entry, historical data house and reporting
• Ownership and improvement of L&D systems currently acting in isolation, designing, and executing a data integration pathway and or simplification
• Allocation and oversight of team reporting & data processing responsibilities
• Consistent proactive communication to all levels of operational leaders in training performance against plan with a relationship to overall operational productivity
• Collaborating effectively with the immediate superintendent team and their site and functional customers
• Creating strong partnerships with both our aluminium Atlantic and Iron Ore Learning and Development functions ensuring synergies, benchmarking and replication occurs
• Driving continuous process improvement to enable platforms for digitisation and forward-facing improvement capacity within the team

About you

To succeed in this role, it is preferred that you will have:

• Demonstrated creation of successful partnerships and an engagement style that embodies our values of both care, courage and curiosity
• Degree level and background in either systems and data, data science or similar discipline
• Ability to synthesise and evaluate large volumes of data in an efficient and organised manner
• Experience with Power BI reporting tool
• Strong demonstration and understanding of lean principals
• Demonstrated project design, management & delivery experience
• Ability to lead a small team encouraging collaboration
• Create a psychologically safe environment and develop individual skills and team capability
• Clear and effective verbal, written & digital presentation skills
• Knowledge of mining and metals operating methods, including governing policy, risk and control frameworks

Where you will be working

You will be part of Rio Tinto’s Aluminium product group with your contribution focused on its Pacific Operations mines, refineries, smelters and central functions. Our recently built office is located in Brisbane’s CBD and offers state of the art technologies and facilities.
