Work Location: Iron Bridge - Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people
Roster: 4/3 or 4/3-8/6 FIFO ex Perth or Port Hedland (Monday – Thursday) or to suit your requirements – Roster is flexible for the right Candidate
Role overview:
We are seeking a leader and innovator to be a core member of the Iron Bridge Operations Planning team, particularly around data systems, drill & blast and mine geology. This is an unusual opportunity to challenge yourself and your team to successfully develop and integrate these functions, allowing effective planning and implementation of ore feed strategies.
This role demands a broad set of soft/technical skills and knowledge to build an effective team and smart, integrated systems. Success in this role will be immensely satisfying to yourself and your team, putting you in a visible position for further opportunities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build and maintain an engaged, empowered and efficient team (3 direct and ~20 non-directs).
- Coordinate the flow of operational data into the planning processes, such as material definition, blasting and drilling performance.
- Drive the close integration of mine geology and D&B engineering so geological information is feed into D&B engineering which in turn completes feedback into mine geology functions. This being underpinned by the successful use of agile and robust data systems.
- Develop and embed safety, risk identification, control and auditing into the team.
- Coordinate and support directly the successful implementation of data systems, mine geology, and drill & blast engineering.
- A willingness and need to always seek better ways; to understand and develop people; and always look to achieve more.
Education and Experience:
- Tertiary Degree, preferably in a mining-related field such as Mining Engineering, Survey, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology/Geoscience or Metallurgy. Further formal qualifications in risk; project management or leadership are well regarded
- Direct onsite experience with hard rock and deep mining operations. Desirable is an ability to demonstrate a breadth of experience such as work across a variety of projects, commodities, roles, companies, consulting and systems of work.
- Demonstrate a conceptual understanding of mine geology and resource estimation functions, such as estimation, sampling and sample support, structural modelling, geo-statistics, reconciliations, probabilistic geological models minerals and infield activities.
- Demonstrate a conceptual understanding of hard rock D&B engineering, such as designs, vibration and air-blast modelling, fragmentation analysis and wall blasting.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of safety systems and practical risk management such as bow-tie analysis, risk assessment techniques, safety behaviour observation systems, risk/exposure reduction and incident investigations such as 5-why and ICAM.
- Competent to use project management systems and processes such as Scrum, Kaizen, and Agile. Use of collaboration systems such as SharePoint and Microsoft Planner with an expert-level ability in a majority of the Microsoft suite i.e. Excel, Planner, Power BI, PowerPoint, Word, Power Apps, Power Automate etc.
