Our Opportunity
Work Location: Port Hedland – Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.
Roster: 4D3R FIFO ex Perth or residential in Port Hedland
Reporting to the Manager Rail Network Maintenance – this is your opportunity to take ownership of critical rail infrastructure that keeps our supply chain moving. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our track network is maintained to the highest standards—driving safety, reliability, and performance while minimising downtime, faults, and speed restrictions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead from the front—fostering a strong team culture focused on safety, capability, and continuous growth
- Develop and mentor team members, building current and future leaders
- Contribute to budgets, planning, and improvement initiatives to deliver cost-effective maintenance outcomes
- Implement and continuously improve best-practice maintenance strategies
- Collaborate with planning teams to ensure efficient delivery of scheduled and reactive maintenance
- Champion safety by proactively identifying and reporting hazards and incidents
- Review and refine maintenance procedures, driving continuous improvement across the team
- Troubleshoot and resolve operational challenges in collaboration with supervisors and stakeholders
- Share expertise and coach others to lift overall team capability
- Manage inventory and coordinate procurement to support upcoming work programs
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar leadership role
- Proven ability to develop, mentor, and inspire teams
- Trade or tertiary qualification (desirable)
- Experience working in heavy haul rail environments and understanding associated challenges
- Strong contractor management capability
- Confident in reporting, with solid computer literacy and systems experience
