About the Role

As a Ventilation Superintendent you will be responsible for:  

  • Leading the ventilation and gas drainage departments to achieve safety and other performance requirements;
  • Design, implementation and management of the ventilation, gas drainage and monitoring systems;
  • Working with technical advisers and drilling contractors to design and implement  gas drainage systems;
  • Management of contractors engaged in ventilation and methane drilling and drainage duties;
  • Budget preparation and control relative to the ventilation, gas monitoring and methane drainage systems;
  • Review, compliance and implementation of applicable principle hazard management plans and procedures;
  • Training of personnel in ventilation, gas management, spontaneous combustion and methane drainage;
  • Assist in the preparation of sealing management plans and second working extraction standard operating procedures;
  • Facilitation of document review, investigations, and risk assessments.

About You

The successful candidate will be required to have:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams with acumen to develop, implement and maintain safety and health, and business operating systems;
  • Demonstrated experience in Mine Ventilation including experience in methane drilling and methane drainage systems;
  • A degree in Mining Engineering or tertiary qualifications in an associated field is desirable;
  • Eligibility for or a Queensland First or Second Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency or a Deputies Certificate of Competency is desirable;
  • A commitment to secure own VO competency through the Board of Examiners is desirable, if not already obtained (you may need to be appointed as VO from time to time);
  • Willingness to participate in a multi-skilled and diverse team committed to ensuring the coal handling and processing operations support production and quality targets;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Willingness and aptitude to maintain high standards of safety, equipment serviceability, housekeeping and compliance for coal processing and handling processes.

Location This role will be based at BMA’s Broadmeadow Mine, approx. 20mins from Moranbah on a 5/2 roster with flexible work arrangments.
