About Olympic Dam

One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Mine Planning, the role of Superintendent Ventilation Mine will be based at Olympic Dam and offered on an 8/6 Wednesday to Wednesday FIFO roster (ex-Adelaide) or residential at Roxby Downs.

Ongoing accountabilities for this role include:

  • Ensuring an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Lead and coach field leadership activities, participate in safety meetings, investigate and manage key safety investigations relevant to the team 
  • Positively shape culture in alignment with the BHP Charter Values
  • Overseeing the day-to-day running of the Mine Ventilation team.
  • Providing leadership to Mine Ventilation team and empowering them to support performance of the mine
  • Interfacing regularly with all Mine based execution groups, Mine Control Operations, Mine Coordinators, Schedule and Planning teams to maximise copper production and production efficiencies
  • Monitoring operating costs ensuring that spend is controlled to the allocated budget
  • Reporting and investigating any significant deviation from the operational plans
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to support customer group by leveraging BOS practices
  • Proactively identifying and resolving systemic issues associated with ventilation plan and schedule quality and for assessing the potential impact on production

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or equivalent
  • Extensive experience in Underground Mining, SLOS and cave mining methods exposure highly regarded
  • Experience in Underground Hard Rock Ventilation and managing underground ventilation networks is preferred
  • Experience with real time environmental monitoring systems and proactive approach to workplace health monitoring
  • Additional experience managing Radiation exposure highly regarded
  • Demonstrated delivery of pragmatic ventilation solutions to support development and production mine plans
  • Leadership experience and engagement of teams that support high quality and engaged delivery
  • Experience implementing continuous improvement strategies with financial and commercial acumen
  • The ability to engage and find positive outcomes with internal and external stakeholders
  • Exposure to Ventsim, Deswik or other CAD packages
