Emergency Services Officer

Work Location:

Hedland Operations (Port & Rail): Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.

Roster:

8D/6R – FIFO (6-month secondment)

Reporting to the Superintendent – Emergency Services, Security & Health, this role is responsible for coordinating the day to day running of the emergency services and security team on site. You will ensure that site based and corporate policies, procedures and plans in relation to emergency management, security management and medical management are met at all times.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Staff supervision and management for direct reports (Emergency Services Officers, Security Officers)
  • Provide coaching to and upskilling of Emergency Services Officers
  • Provide leadership and training services for the emergency response volunteer team (ERT) and other site departments in emergency management practices
  • Equipment preparedness – operational, compliant and audited
  • Develop/deliver and participate in emergency exercises and provide effective feedback to all involved
  • Assume role of Incident Controller or On Scene commander at incidents when required
  • Ensure all response activities have a minimal impact on production
  • Propose improvement ideas and plans for the department and the business
  • Record accurate statistical information and documentation
  • Adhere to Fortescue Hazard and incident reporting requirements
  • Provide a visible safety leadership style of leading by example and positive safety behaviours

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant experience gained in a similar emergency response role within mining and resources
  • Previous experience in incident control/incident management
  • Certificate III in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations) or Certificate III in Emergency Response & Rescue, or equivalent
  • Certificate IV in Health Care, or above
  • Certificate II in Security Operations
  • Knowledge of the Work Health and Safety (General) Regulations 2022 and Work Health  and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022
  • Leadership qualifications
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • Familiarisation with AIIMS (Australasian Inter-Agency Incident Management System) and its structure
  • Approved Drug Screening Officer or equivalent
  • WA HR driver's license
  • Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
