Located in the Great Sandy Desert in Western Australia, Telfer is a fly in fly out operation from Perth which recognizes the importance of work-life balance.  Our comfortable rooms include Foxtel, and our site offers quality food with healthy options, medical care, sports and recreation activities.

Who we’re looking for

We are seeking an agile and motivated Emergency Services and Security Supervisor to provide leadership and direction to the Emergency Response and Security Team at Telfer such that any emergency involving the Telfer Operations and assets is managed in an efficient and effective manner whilst reducing the risk of injuries or harm to personnel, the environment and company assets.

Reporting to the Superintendent Health, Emergency Services and Security this unique yet rewarding opportunity will see you manage risks across our Underground, Open Pit, and Camp Sites. The diverse operations across site will offer a multitude of challenges where no two days will be the same.

Other key deliverables of the role include:

  • Maintain all emergency response equipment to high standard of readiness and keep up to date records
  • Lead and develop the Emergency Services team, including both employed and volunteer members.
  • Ensure all volunteer ERT members are adequately trained and certified in the appropriate courses based on the site risk profile
  • Support and develop the onsite Emergency Services officers to Conduct effective weekly training days for volunteer ERT members and monitor individual skill levels.
  • Provide medical assistance to the site medical team and site as required
  • Support security services around site and village including traffic management, asset protection, dispute resolutions, patrols, reports, and investigations
  • Co-ordinate and conduct daily drug and alcohol testing as and when required. Develop and maintain close relationships with department heads and contractors

Our ideal candidate will be a safety-focused professional with systematic understanding of emergency preparedness and understand that direct, preventative communication and engagement with the operations workgroups is key to a successful response. Through excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you will develop and maintain close relationships with the operations departments, and internally with the security and health team. You will be able to work well within a team, maintain calmness during and emergency and demonstrated ability to direct the team under pressure. Your eye for detail and intrinsic drive for excellence will see you develop a high performing team across the security, and emergency services sections with direct engagement with the health function.

 Requirements for the role includes the following;

  • Certificate III in Emergency Response with Fire-fighting, OCBA & CCBA, UG search and rescue, Road crash rescue, Confined Space rescue, Hazmat, Rope Rescue.
  • Certificate II in Security operations
  • Current Security Agents License or able to obtain a license. (highly desirable)
  • Cert IV in Health Care / Pre-hospital Care
  • Manual HR Drivers Licence
  • Collect Pathology Specimens other than bloods or equivalent.
  • Certificate IV in Work health Safety (Desirable)
  • Certificate IV Training and Assessment (Desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience in an Emergency Services leadership role
  • Demonstrated underground experience within the mining sector  along with a solid operational understanding of mining.
  • High degree of analytical skills with ability to problem solve in critical real emergency response incidents and live action scenarios.

Please note: This is a permanent role that will work on a FIFO (8/6), flying out of Perth.
