About the Role
We currently have an opportunity for a Supervisor / Specialist within Supply’s Warehouse, Inventory and Logistics team with a primary geographical work focus at our Mt Whaleback and Jimblebar mine sites. The role can either be residential, fly in fly out, or drive in drive out, and is on an 8 days on, six days off, 12 hours per day roster.
The role is responsible for assisting in ensuring that all diesel tanks in the Western Australia (WA) Iron Ore are safely replenished according to requirements, and so as to ensure continuity of diesel supply. The role will also be required to undertake critical control verifications for other aspects of BHP’s 3rd party logistics delivery operations at our WAIO and other Australian operations.
In this role, you will be the primary point of contact in operating our Mt Whaleback diesel terminal and Jimblebar fuel-unloading spur to facilitate 24 hour diesel availability. This will include:
- Standard ongoing operational activities such as tank dewatering, daily, weekly and monthly inspections, tank sampling, changing draw down tanks, etc;
- Troubleshooting terminal operational issues and using SAP to raise maintenance requests & developing positive relationships with Asset Owners and Infrastructure maintainers to remedy issues;
- Unloading diesel rail tanker cars daily at our Jimblebar and Mt Whaleback fuel unloading spurs;
- Being a frontline point of contact in managing contractor deliverables within Supply’s span of control (including verifying and validating planned trucking delivery schedules);
- Effective and accurate stock reconciliation between our various diesel recording and management systems (daily and monthly), so as to ensure accurate and timely diesel stock allocations to plants and cost centres;
- Complete various verifications that ensure our critical controls around transportation and specialised load/unload activities are in place and working; and
- Coaching, mentoring, training and developing peers and new starters in operational requirements.
About You
- Strong problem-solving skills in an operational mining and office based environment.
- Physically fit and agile, suited to daily manual handling tasks.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and frontline contractor management skills and experience.
- Strong communication skills (active listening skills and constructive feedback).
- Demonstrates respectful and positive behaviours.
- Strong attention to detail and good experience in using the Microsoft office suite.
- Experience in using the SAP suite.
- Resilient aptitude to work alone for prolonged periods.
- Hold a valid WA C Class driver’s license (manual vehicle).
- Willingness to learn, adapt, and improve.
- Experience in hydrocarbon management and mining favoured but not essential.
