About the Role
Through BHP’s Future Fit Academy we are providing a nationally standardised curriculum for trade apprenticeships and maintenance traineeships. The first two campuses have been established in Welshpool, Perth and Mackay, Queensland. These facilities include virtual reality simulation training and full mobile equipment and fixed plant workshops.
The Future Fit Academy Perth is growing and we are seeking multiple opportunities for experienced Supervisors to be part of this amazing venture to develop the future maintenance workforce at BHP. This Supervisor role will report directly to the Superintendent Future Fit Academy, and you will provide an environment where health and wellbeing are seen as a pre-requisite for safety.
This position is located in Welshpool, Perth on 4 days, 4 nights, 4 off roster (8.5 hour shifts). Overseeing training activities related to our maintenance associate traineeship or apprenticeship program will provide you with rewarding challenges and a varied scope. Supporting, coaching, and mentoring a team of trainers and students, you will be responsible for:
- Promoting a high safety culture by leading by example and by enabling your team
- Fostering a positive culture and an overriding commitment to inclusion and diversity
- Collaborative work across various stakeholders to ensure training activates are performed safely and effectively
- Leading and mentoring trainers and students including coaching, developing and conflict resolution
- Supervising the execution of formal training plans in order to safely achieve the established competency and compliance targets as well as monitoring and reporting training adherence to the schedule

About You
The nature of the role requires you to be a people leader, a forward thinker and focussed on process and safety discipline. A background in leading high performing teams with a strong safety focus will be critical to the success of this position.
It is preferable that you will also have the following:
- You must hold a trade qualification in Heavy Diesel or similar field plus previous Supervisor experience
- Current qualification or skill sets in Training and Assessment would be desirable but not essential.
- Training & Assessment experience in a similar role within mining or heavy industry would be advantageous.
- Leadership skills and ability to engage people from various backgrounds and experience levels, enabling team members to unlock potential
- Demonstrated experience in ensuring HSEC standards, hazard identification and event management is applied by all departmental personnel
- Effective communication with various stakeholders at all levels and across departments
- Strong problem solving skills and a high level of motivation to identify and implement improvements
