About The RoleWe are looking for a Supervisor Major Works to join the Major Works team responsible for delivering major shutdown and maintenance activities across Rio Tinto’s specialised fixed plant assets. Reporting to the Superintendent Major Works, you will support the development of shutdown scope and readiness, while leading the safe execution, commissioning, handover and close-out of complex maintenance campaigns on Primary Crushers (Gyratory and Jaw Crushers), Apron Feeders, or Balance Machines.

Working on a 8:6 FIFO roster, you will play a key role in driving safe execution, quality outcomes, shutdown performance and asset reliability while partnering with operational, maintenance, engineering and contractor stakeholders across the Pilbara.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the safe execution of major shutdown and maintenance activities on specialised fixed plant assets including Primary Crushers, Apron Feeders and Balance Machines.
  • Support shutdown scope development, methodology reviews, readiness activities and execution planning to ensure work is executable and aligned with shutdown objectives.
  • Lead frontline teams, contractors and specialist vendors during shutdown execution, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
  • Drive shutdown readiness through work pack reviews, walk-the-task activities, risk assessments, isolation planning and commissioning preparation.
  • Coordinate labour, equipment, tooling, materials and contractor resources throughout the shutdown lifecycle.
  • Manage execution performance against schedule, critical path milestones, budget and shutdown objectives.
  • Lead QA/QC, verification and commissioning activities to ensure assets are returned to service safely and reliably.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between operations, maintenance, engineering, planning and contractor stakeholders.
  • Capture maintenance history, shutdown learnings and improvement opportunities to support continuous improvement and future shutdown performance.
  • Ensure all activities comply with safety, environmental, statutory and Rio Tinto shutdown management requirements.
  • Support shutdown reviews, close-out activities and implementation of improvement actions following execution.

Required for Success

  • A strong commitment to the safety of yourself and others.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising major maintenance, shutdown or asset replacement activities within mining, fixed plant or other heavy industrial environments.
  • Proven experience leading frontline maintenance teams, contractors and specialist vendors during high-risk maintenance and shutdown activities.
  • Strong understanding of work management, shutdown execution, commissioning, QA/QC and contractor management principles.
  • Experience coordinating labour, materials, tooling, equipment and specialist contractor resources to support safe and efficient execution.
  • Proven ability to engage and influence stakeholders across operations, maintenance, engineering, planning and contractor organisations.
  • Experience leading work pack reviews, readiness activities, risk assessments and execution planning for complex maintenance scopes.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook and Word.
  • A current Australian Manual C Class Driver’s Licence.

Helpful for Success

  • Experience supervising major shutdowns, outages or asset replacement campaigns involving Primary Crushers, Apron Feeders, Balance Machines or other large-scale materials handling assets.
  • Demonstrated experience executing major maintenance activities on one or more of the following asset classes:
  • Primary Crushers (Gyratory and Jaw Crushers)
  • Apron Feeders
  • Balance Machines (Reclaimers/Stackers)
  • Relevant trade qualification or practical experience in fixed plant maintenance, shutdown execution or asset reliability.
  • Experience managing contractors, shutdown logistics, specialist resources and maintenance budgets.
  • Knowledge of asset management, work management and shutdown management processes within large-scale operational environments.
  • Experience using SAP and maintenance scheduling tools such as Prometheus or Microsoft Project.
  • Experience leading shutdown readiness reviews, work pack reviews, commissioning activities and safe asset handovers.
  • Previous exposure to critical lifts, complex commissioning activities and high-risk maintenance scopes.
  • Understanding of contractor management, procurement processes, long lead material planning and shutdown governance.
