About the Role

South Flank is BHP’s newest iron ore mine, and the biggest in 50 years. It expands existing infrastructure at Mining Area C, adding 80 Mtpa of new crushing and screening capacity, an extensive overland conveyor system, expanded stockyards and new train loading facilities to form the Pilbara’s biggest hub. Its brand new mining fleet is the biggest and best in class, and is being progressively converted to autonomous operation, in line with South Flank’s future-facing design.

South Flank is transitioning from its previous 2/1 roster to a 8/6/7/7 (opportunities available for both rosters), 12-hour day/night FIFO roster, allowing you more time to enjoy doing what you love. If you are moving from a 2/1 roster, this means an average of 43 more days at home – including every other weekend off! 

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, dynamic leader to be part of something big - to work in an innovative team, with evolving technology, and playing a pivotal role in creating in our mine.  As a Mining Production Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in safely executing the operations for mining production. You will supervise the safe execution of production activities undertaken by front-line operational personnel, in accordance with operating standards, procedures and defined processes to deliver optimal production outcomes in line with targets for HSEC, Cost and Volume.

You will be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader, engaging, developing and coaching your team. You will lead by example, support a diverse and inclusive team and apply a continuous improvement approach to identify and improve upon our operating philosophy and processes ensuring a safety first approach at all times.

About You

The ideal candidate will have the ability to lead positive change and support continued development. As a leader you will have an absolute commitment to working safely, complying with all site safety standards, mine working procedures and ensure a safe and environmentally healthy workplace. This includes leading and coaching operators in best operating practice, ensuring safety and working standards are maintained to such an extent that work may be stopped if standards are not met.

To be successful for this role you will have:

  • Substantial supervisory experience preferably in large scale open pit operations:

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, ability to foster positive working relationships and be adaptable to various communication styles;

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach, lead and facilitate cooperation with production personnel;

  • A proven ability to plan, organise and coordinate a variety of tasks within a dynamic environment; and

  • Possess intermediate computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, SAP and similar systems and databases.

  • Komatsu FrontRunner Autonomous Haulage preferred but not required.

You will also have a sound working knowledge of the Mines Safety & Inspection Act & Regulations; your technical strengths will be complemented by well-developed communication skills.  Minimum of C class driver’s license is required.
