About the role: We are currently seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to join our Coppabella Mine. Our Coppabella Moorvale mine complex consists of two open-cut mine operations located approximately 140 kilometers southwest of Mackay that produce premium low-volatile pulverised coal (LV-PCI) for export markets.
Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, you will be responsible for all day to day mine activities in compliance with all relevant statutes by providing leadership to achieve safe and effective production. You will be part of a dynamic team contributing to the successful performance of the mine along with the following duties:
- Providing practical input into the content of all short- and long-term maintenance plans
- Providing leadership, motivation and support to all roster, and day night shift team members, taking accountability for team performance including contractors
- Executing all planned, breakdown and improvement work, minor projects and reliability initiatives
- Reducing equipment downtime by ensuring all maintenance activities are planned, manned and carried out to a high standard, in a safe and timely manner.
- Promoting a team culture of continuous improvement and innovation, including cost saving initiatives
- Promote and enforce safe and efficient work practices
- Use problem solving skills combined with self-motivation to focus on developing solutions and plans to challenge presented in the workplace
The lifestyle: This position is offered on a 7/7 even time roster and can allow for a residential (Moranbah or Nebo), DIDO or FIFO lifestyle. Employees living residentially may have access to a $15,000 housing allowance and may have the ability to salary sacrifice up to 50% of rental payments.
About you:
- Hold a Trade or Tertiary Qualification in a Mechanical or Electrical discipline
- Minimum of 3 years demonstrated leadership capability in a similar role
- Experience in applying best practice maintenance techniques to optimise equipment availability
- Experience with trucks, excavators and drills
- Valid Driver’s license
- Experience in SAP maintenance applications will be highly regarded

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Supervise maintenance and repair personnel by providing technical counsel and advice to the maintenance workers, answer questions on methods or materials to be used, check to observe workmanship and conformance to safety regulations
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely maintenance records
- Under the direction of Maintenance Manager, implement short-term and long-term maintenance planning, scheduling and forecasting
- Assists the Maintenance Manager in the periodic review of maintenance and repair reports
- Provide input into analyzing costs for potential improvements
- Assist in the monitoring and maintaining the proper flow of parts and inventory
- Analyze failed components for failure reasons and then makes changes to eliminate or lessen chances or repeat failures
- Keeps Maintenance Manager and/or Mine Management advised of work progress, job completions and results
- Evaluate the efforts of workforce and train them in area of weakness
- Keep abreast of latest maintenance methods and equipment through technical publications and vendor representatives
- Monitor maintenance employees work performance and operating conditions to ensure the prevention of accidents consistent with company safety objectives and applicable State and Federal regulations
- Make recommendations for equipment changes or replacements
- Supervise equipment change/upgrade efforts and any replacement/relocation activities
- Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements
- Other duties as assigned by the company
EXPERIENCE
- 2 years of experience maintaining heavy diesel equipment required

Physical Requirements - Surface Environment
- Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
- Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
- Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
- Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
- Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
- Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 – 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift
- Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
- Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)
Physical Requirements - Underground Environment
- Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces for up to the entire length of the shift
- Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
- Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time. Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom
- Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
- Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period as a result of mine height
- Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
- Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
- Must have the ability to lift 25 – 50 lbs. on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 80 lbs.
- Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
- Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)
