We have an opportunity to join our Resource Development team as a Supervisor Operations supporting a wide range of projects across the Pilbara.

You will be accountable for enabling the Resource Development Operations Team to be compliant with the Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulation and our Mine Safety Management System (MSMS) whilst achieving Safe Production. You will be responsible for identifying and escalating non-conformances found during inspections. Shared learnings and actions will be used to standardise practices across Resource Development.

We engage with multiple contract partners who conduct earthworks, resource drilling and wireline surveys to gain the orebody knowledge essential to Rio Tinto’s future.

Reporting to the Principal with no direct reports and working 8 days on; 6 days off roster (dayshift only), the ideal candidate will have:

  • Obtained statutory supervisor qualification from DMIRS or in the process of obtaining it within the next 3 months

  • Good understanding of the new Work Health Safety (Mines) regulation

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

  • Ability to manage your own schedule and work autonomously

  • Experience in conducting inspections, communicating/document outcomes and follow up on actions to close out.

  • Contractor management and project management experience 

  • Leadership experience

  • Stakeholder engagement skills including the ability to effectively influence, collaborate with and negotiate with contract partners, operational team leaders, procurement and planning teams 

  • Continuous improvement and change management implementation experience (e.g. demonstrated use of process improvement methodologies, Six Sigma, etc.) 

  • Manual C Class driver’s license

It would be beneficial to also have

  • A proven track record of success in a quarry manager or similar statutory role 

  • Experience in drilling and earthworks.

  • Responsibility for multiple operations at the same time

The Greater Hope Downs Rhodes Ridge hub takes in existing operations at Hope Downs1 and 4, recently approved Hope Downs 2 as the Rhodes Ridge Iron Ore Project, which will become a cornerstone of Rio Tinto’s long-term iron ore strategy.
