BMA is a division of BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA). The 50/50 BHP Mitsubishi joint venture operates seven mines in the Bowen Basin, as well as an export terminal at Hay Point. BMA Rail is the leading Operator in Safe Operations within the Central Queensland Coal Network.
About the Role
Reporting to the Production Rail Superintendent, the Supervisor Production Rail plays a major role in the day to day running of BMA Rail Operations by providing frontline leadership to enable the safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of train services to our customers.
Our successful candidate will:
- Coordinate the allocation of traincrew to ensure that scheduled tasks are delivered without disruption of services.
- Coordinate and schedule timely in-field maintenance repairs on BMA Rolling Stock Fleet.
- Implement business improvement initiatives in order to reduce asset cycle times and improve train payloads.
- Provide active crewing levels to support the provision of rostering and scheduling services.
- Build positive workplace relationships with allocated team including setting and monitoring of performance standards, development, and behavioural standards.
- Ensure the team’s ongoing compliance to local legislative WHS requirements, through consistent execution of BMA Rail Safety Management System, including incident investigations when required.
- Ensure optimum driving methodologies are being adhered to by regularly reviewing locomotive downloads and driver performance.
- Work collaboratively with team members to meet deadlines and contribute to the evaluation of service performance objectives and customer delivery.
- In this role you will be required to work shift work in accordance with a 4-day roster which includes morning, night, weekend, and public holiday shifts.

About You
- Must possess the sound ability to formulate appropriate solutions to complex operational problems within a dynamic changing rail environment.
- Ability to respond quickly and rationally to problems as well as work collaboratively on complex issues.
- Possessing strong planning, organisation and prioritisation skills are essential.
- Highly effective negotiation skills and ability to work with a range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and influence others in an environment of change.
- Well-developed safety management skills and knowledge including incident investigation.
- Ability to effectively engage team members, establish and sustain relationships, set clear direction, and provide coaching.
- Detailed understanding of train handling and provisioning procedures, network route knowledge, safe working systems and personnel deployment practices.
- Customer relationship management skills.
- Must possess a current valid and unrestricted Australian Drivers Licence.
- Must Possess a Certificate IV Train Driving.
- S1, S2, S3 and G2 certifications are desirable but not mandatory.
Our successful candidate will possess:
- A strong understanding of safety management practices and legislation within Rail operations.
- You will be comfortable with detailed reporting and analytics, as well as drawing concise data from these activities to identify faults and optimise operational outputs.
- A high degree of proactivity that ensures we follow up all incidents with appropriate investigation and implement appropriate improvement action plans.
- A passion for collaboration and demonstrated ability to influence within your peer group as well as upwards.
- Highly developed problem-solving skills, supported by experience in leading Rail operations during crisis situations.
