About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mining Engineer to join our Newman Operations Production Scheduling team. This team sits within the wider Integrated Operations team of BHP Western Australian Iron Ore (WAIO). Newman Operations is a large scale open cut iron ore mine in the Pilbara, located next to Newman town we can accommodate FIFO or residential applicants.
The Production Scheduling Supervisor role reports to the Superintendent Production Scheduling, a small team of mining engineers report to this position. The Production Scheduling Supervisor is directly supervising the execution of 2 year schedules and tactical mine designs and will need to be experienced in these areas.
The Production Scheduling team is responsible for generating mine schedules and designs across the 2 week to 2 year planning horizons. The successful candidate will be supporting and providing governance across these time frames, with direct accountability for the tactical outputs.
The key responsibilities of the role will include:
- Coaching and mentoring of mine planning engineers, including training and development support
- Identifying and implementing cultural and process improvement initiatives within the team/operation
- Demonstrating industry-leading commitment to heritage, environment and safety and ensuring this forms the foundation of all our plans and designs;
- Driving our safety culture through quality field leadership
- Conducting mine plan risk assessment and proactively identifying risk in the mine plan, implementing mitigating controls and escalating these
- Reviewing and guiding the optimisation of pit, dump and infrastructure designs to support the mine plan
- Seeking to continuously improve both efficiency and value through work planning practices and procedures, as well as identifying opportunities for efficiencies in the operation
- Ensuring sound engagement of key stakeholders both with regards to gathering plan inputs and the communication of plan outputs

About You

Your interpersonal skills will foster strong working relationships across the numerous teams that Production Scheduling work with. In addition to demonstrated ability to consolidate and analyse information, you will have the skills and knowledge to provide critical thinking and a solution-focused attitude.
The successful candidate will have;
- Strong communication and engagement skills, over written and verbal mediums
- 5 years experience as a mine planning engineer, including time on site and as a Medium Term Engineer (2 year scheduling or design)
- Strong analytical skills to review information, problem solve and influence stakeholders
- Tertiary qualifications in Mine Engineering or other related disciplines in Engineering or Geoscience (preferred)
- Proficiency of CAD software packages (such as Vulcan or Deswik)
