Project Operations Supervisor

About the role

We are looking for a Project Operations Supervisor to implement the delivery of operational and logistical support servicing that support resources, facilities, and services to provide a safe and effective field operations (e.g. Personnel transport, camp facilities, drilling / filed operations freight).

This role is a great opportunity for someone with proven generalist field experience to play a vital role within the project team. The Project Operational Supervisor must enjoy being part of the exploration team, have a passion for field activities and the coordination of logistics and operational requirements. You need to be able to travel to remote project locations in throughout Eastern Australia.

Reporting to the OS Regional Superintendent, you will

  • Supervise OS staff including apportionment of tasks, compiling Job Descriptions, hiring, pay, discipline and performance management in line with local labour legislation
  • Managing equipment and resources including stock management, re-supply and transport from the resupply base and contractual issues concerning any locally contracted work
  • Managing camp movement, camp maintenance of predominately caravan style camps
  • Managing camp risks including hygiene, hydrocarbon storage and hazardous materials
  • Training and coaching skills to develop local capacity
  • Managing financial discipline and working within project-related OS budgets
  • Assisting in maintenance programmes for field equipment including fleet management
  • Setting the standards in terms of compliant OS practices and the maintenance of full HSEC compliance.

What you’ll bring

  • Current C Class driving license
  • Experience working in remote field-based environments
  • Proven ability to develop positive and productive team relationships with a wide range of people
  • Graduate in a related OS field or equivalent or prior professional experience in a similar capacity
  • Demonstrated ability to solve operational problems, adapt to change quickly and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency
  • Budgeting, strong administration skills and rostering experience
  • Proficient across Microsoft suite of programs
  • Strong interpersonal and management skills, with the ability to drive high standards and positive work cultures.
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • A passion for working outside and within small teams

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Previous experience managing the facilities of a small exploration camp of up to 100 rooms
  • Current licenses - HR, Forklift/ Telescopic Material Handler, and High-Risk Work

Where you’ll be working

Rio Tinto's Exploration group seeks to create value for the business by discovering or acquiring new mineral resources. Organised into three regional teams (Americas, Australasia, and Africa-Europe-Eurasia), the Exploration group provides both a global reach and a local presence across a range of commodities.

The role will be based in our Bowen Hills Exploration Office or Mt Isa Regional Exploration Office. The role requires field-based work on varying rosters according to project requirements throughout the year.
