About the role

Our Rail Network Renewals (RNR) team at our 7 Mile operation in Dampier are seeking a standout leader to join the team.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Rail Network Renewals Rerail, you will be responsible for the delivery of the RioTinto Rail Network Renewals rerail scope. You will also be responsible for supervising the day-to-day rerail activities on site as well as the daily management of contractors ensuring the rerail plan remains on schedule.

Your duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Supervise rerail activities on the RioTinto Rail Network to ensure that standards of qualityas well as safety and performance are observed and that time schedules are met
  • Undertake administration duties where required
  • Interface with other engineering functions and renewals teams
  • Ensure sufficient resources (plant and people) are provided on a project so that it can be delivered safely
  • Have a continuous improvement mindset and support an inclusive culture in line with Rio Tinto’s values

About you

Along with solid leadership capability and experience in the Rail industry, you will also hold a minimum 4 years’ experience supervising construction activities on project sites.

Your strong communication skills will be critical in this role, including strong negotiation and influencing skills. Your ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally will be paramount to the success of this role.

Where you will be working

This opportunity is being offered either residentially, in the heart of the coastal town of Karratha, with a short drive to site in Dampier at 7 Mile, or FIFO from Perth. The roster will be offered as a 8 days on 6 days off roster. We operate 200 locomotives on more than 1,700 kilometres of track in the Pilbara, transporting ore from 16 mines to four port terminals. The average return distance of these trains is about 800 kilometres with the average journey cycle, including loading and dumping, taking approximately 40 hours.
