About the Role

Based at the Western Ridge Crusher Project, next to the town of Newman, our Major Projects team are looking for a talented and capable emergency management leader to join us in the development of this new and exciting project. As a Security and Emergency Management Supervisor with BHP. you will be working in a dynamic and demanding environment which will come with its own unique challenges throughout construction.

Reporting to the Superintendent HSE & SEM, this is a great opportunity to facilitate emergency management outcomes through your leadership, coaching, direction and expert advice. The primary purpose of this role is to lead the team in the delivery of excellence and continuous improvement in the areas of site security, emergency response and medical treatment.

The role is a permanent FIFO, flying from Perth, on 8 days on, 6 days off roster.

The successful candidate will work with a back-to-back SEM Supervisor to provide a well aligned approach in the following areas.

  • Lead and set the strategic direction for emergency services professionals.
  • Support Emergency Response Officers in providing dynamic support and expertise to construction teams in preparing for adequate response capability during high risk activities.
  • Proactive assessment and oversight of active work areas to maintain high level understanding of ongoing and ad hoc risks.
  • Implementation and execution of rapidly evolving training requirements to ensure effective response capability in alignment with all phases of construction.
  • Liaise with site leadership to develop and plan training scenarios to prepare for and verify response capability against the site risk profile.
  • Resource and maintain an effective emergency response capability for site, aligned to the emergency response control design.
  • Assume the role of on-scene incident commander during emergency events.
  • Ensure operating discipline regarding clinical treatment guidelines, drug management, routine inspection and maintenance of critical emergency response equipment.
  • Build capability in line leaders through governance and support of the site Incident Management Team (IMT).
  • Support team members in high quality delivery of medical treatments, aligned with clinical governance-based processes and procedures.
  • Coach and develop team members in all Security & Emergency Management deliverables to the Western Ridge Crusher Project as well as supporting operational preparedness with neighbouring teams.
  • Work with HSE & SEM Superintendent to develop team processes and reporting lines, utilising existing BHP systems, for clear alignment and visibility across functions.

About You

This role will suit a highly capable emergency services professional looking for career progression, or an experienced leader, motivated to collaborate with site and HSE teams to ensure that everyone goes home safely.

You may have:

•    Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue (or equivalent) •    Cert IV Health Care and/or tertiary medical qualifications (or equivalent) •    Construction and/or project experience within the resourcing sector •    HR truck license and/or experience in emergency vehicle use •    4WD qualifications and/or formal training

You must have:

•    Commitment to obtaining (via BHP), holding and maintaining a Statutory Appointed Supervisor position under Schedule 26 of WHS (Mines) Regulations 2022 •    Demonstrated experience leading teams in a supervisory capacity •    Background in emergency service roles (ie paramedicine, nursing, state fire services, policing, defence) •    Proven commitment to making a positive difference in the health and safety of others •    Current Australian drivers license C class
