About the Role
Within the Rail Network Maintenance department, the Track Renewals team is responsible for executing large-scale capital and operation expenditure track works including Re Rail, Track Renewal/Reconstruction, turnout and cross over renewal, rail stress management and rail civil works. Based out of Port Hedland you’ll be working on a 8 days on / 6 days off roster on a fly-in fly-out or residential basis. The role requires travel all along the rail network with accommodation provided at a range of camps.
Our Track Renewals Supervisors are responsible for planning and supervising the execution of track works that incorporate the larger track renewal scope. This includes scoping (identifying required site layout, how the track will be deconstructed and constructed), site preparation (laydown construction, material deliveries etc.) and execution (deconstruction and construction of track and associated infrastructure). The OPEX Track Supervisors are responsible for the Rail Network Maintenance OPEX works including the Re Rail, Rail Stress Management and Minor Renewals Work banks.
The main responsibilities for this role include but not limited to are:
- Ensure compliance with the requirements of the Rail Safety Act and BHP Procedures
- Developing and implementing track renewals methodologies in accordance to procedures and industry best practice standards
- Provide input into the planning of track renewals shutdowns including design reviews, staging plans, Gantt schedule, resourcing tables and structure of the teams to enable safe and efficient execution
- Leading the Track Renewals OPEX team including direct management of two Track Coordinators to enable to safe execution of the work banks
- Supervision of contractor and sub-contractor groups during execution of works to ensure all technical and quality standards are achieved safely
- Reviewing of contractor proposals to ensure efficient execution of scope of works
- Perform site safety functions including field leadership schedule is in place and completed, reviewing and signing Task Based Risk Assessments (JHA)
- Management of the Track Renewals internal execution team including performance management, team structure and recruitment
- Prepare permits and communication packages including (permit to work, general alerts, traffic control plans, excavation permits)
About You
Our preferred candidate will have the following skills and experience;
- Leadership experience in track renewals supervision
- Certificate III in Rail Infrastructure and additional electives (highly desirable)
- Supervisory experience in track renewals works including plain line, turnouts and cross overs, level crossings, re rail and stress management
- Effective and collaborative communication style, interpersonal and people management skills with a range of audiences
- Computer literacy with Microsoft suite, 1SAP and planning systems
- Good planning skills and the ability to oversee projects to successful completion
- Administration and prioritisation including time management capability
- Competent in reading design drawings, plans and schedules
- Experience with Risk management in rail track works environment
- Sound knowledge of Railroad Operating Rules and industry standards (safety and quality)
- Current full West Australian drivers license or current equivalent Australian State
- Experience with planning and executing Track Works including, Rail & Stress Management, Track Construction, Construction of turnouts and level crossing construction.
