About the role
We are looking for a Train Control Supervisor to lead a team of Train Controllers that execute safe and efficient movement of rail vehicles and maintenance across our private rail network. As a Supervisor, you will be accountable for train control operations in the world’s first fully autonomous heavy haul railway from our state-of-the-art Operations Centre.
This role is a great opportunity to lead a pivotal operational team to continually improve our safety and operational performance.
You will ensure that the Rio Tinto Railway Rules and Procedures are followed. You will work closely with other Supervisors to drive standardisation and consistency across the teams.
Reporting through to the Superintendent Train Control, the role will be responsible for ensuring your Train Control team execute safe and efficient operations.
Your duties will include but are not limited to:
- Overseeing the safe productive operation of the Rio Tinto Rail Network
- Support the Train Controller in all aspects of safe working
- Manage all safety related delays and escalations on the network
- Safety/Process incident and action management
- Prepare detailed shift handovers that capture all required safety information (incident, procedural changes/ updates), crewing concerns (TC), CRM and auditing results and information on network constraints/ shut information
- Conduct daily CRM and auditing on safe working tasks
- Review and approve/ escalate all SSMP, ensuring they are adequate and printed ready for the following shifts maintenance activities
- Prepare metrics and feedback required for the DDM.
All front-line leadership responsibilities managing direct reports inclusive of but not limited to;
- Facilitate a quality prestart prior to each shift
- Monthly- one on one check in
- Quarterly formal one on one performance check in
- Development plans for all direct reports with achievable goals and address specific gaps to capability development with individual team members
- Manage all aspects of HR including performance management with coaching from the TC Operations Superintendent.
- Manage the Harmony rosters of all Train Controllers to ensure sufficient coverage
About you
In addition to your current leadership experience and previous exposure to a similar Supervisor role, you will also have the below outcomes to be considered:
- A WA Current C Class Driver’s License
- Demonstrated capability in leading operational teams
- Strong leadership, people management and negotiation skills
- Experience leading teams or projects through change
- Strong written and verbal communication capability
- Railway experience would be highly regarded
- Tertiary education would be highly regarded
Where you will be working
This role is being offered in Perth based out of our Operations Centre, near the Perth Airport. Our privately owned and operated rail network is an essential part of our integrated production process and services our 15 mines across the Pilbara via 1,700km of track. With depots located at Tom Price, Cape Lambert and Dampier (7 Mile), each train comprises up to three locomotives and 240 ore cars stretching to approximately 2.7 kilometres in length with over 40 trains operating per day. We are also applying and adapting technology to improve safety and productivity across our rail network.
