We are seeking an Advisor Supplier Engagement to assist with supporting Indigenous and local suppliers to improve their experience in working with Rio Tinto. Working closely with the Indigenous Economic Development team and the Communities team, this role will provide a key interface to internal and external business stakeholders to support the removal of barriers and simplify their contact with Rio Tinto.

Based in Tom Price on a permanent full-time basis you will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Working closely with Indigenous and local supplier groups to support the efficacy and delivery of their supplier agreements, in close collaboration with site and Perth based procurement teams.
  • Assist Indigenous and local suppliers with navigating the Rio Tinto Procurement process across Tom Price, Newman, and Paraburdoo (including all inland towns within East Pilbara) and ensuring their connection to the right people within operations and procurement
  • Liaise with site-based procurement champions and internal SMEs on supplier queries and providing proactive local market insights
  • Assist with identifying and developing opportunities to increase Indigenous and local supplier participation across the inland Pilbara operations
  • Attend meetings with internal stakeholders and suppliers capturing and disseminating outcomes and actions with internal stakeholders.
  • Provide efficient and effective administrative support including preparing correspondence, communicating with internal teams, and preparing reports
  • Assist with the preparation of newsletters, presentation documents as required by team leader
  • Participate in local government or community meetings and capability development events as an SME for Indigenous and local supplier engagement
  • Champion the “Buy Local / Grow Local” strategy

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Experience working in the supply chain with a strong focus on EOI, Tender and vender qualification processes would be advantageous.
  • Developed professional communication and interpersonal skills to communicate and consult effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • High level of cultural competence and previous experience working with Indigenous supplier groups highly desirable
  • Ability to quickly develop positive relationships with stakeholders
  • Ability and motivation to learn about the business functions, and stakeholder’s requirements quickly
  • Proficient time management skills and ability to prioritise a wide range complex of tasks
  • Experience using Ariba desirable
  • The ability to work independently and in a team environment across several regional locations

Where you’ll be working

Tom Price is located in the central Pilbara, west of Karijini National Park and is our original Pilbara mine, currently employing residential and fly in fly out employees. It is known as one of the most attractive towns in the Pilbara with a high school, two primary schools a hospital and a high standard of recreational facilities.
