Surface Electrical Engineer

About the role: We are currently seeking a Surface Electrical Engineer at our Metropolitan mine. The Surface Electrical Engineer is required to supervise the installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of electrical plant and installations on the surface of the mine. Our Metropolitan mine is an underground coal mining operation located 30 kilometers north of Wollongong in Helensburgh, NSW producing metallurgical coking coal for export and domestic customers.

Duties will include: 

The Surface Electrical Engineer is responsible for electrical activities on the surface areas of the mine inclusive of the following:

• Co-ordination of all electrical activities relating to gas drainage, powered winding systems production and maintenance activities on the surface area of the mine
• High Voltage cables, plant and switchgear installation, commissioning, recovery and maintenance
• Low Voltage machinery and equipment installation, commissioning and maintenance
• Plant procurement, site acceptance, installation, maintenance and disposal
• Co-ordination of outbye specific plant overhauls
• Co-ordination of conveyor recovery, installation, commissioning and maintenance
• Co-ordination of gas monitoring systems recovery, installation, commissioning and maintenance

The lifestyle: This position is offered as a 5/2 roster arrangement

About you:

To be successful in this role, you must have:

• Electrical trade
• Electrical Engineering Advanced Diploma or Degree
• HV switching competencies
• EEHA competencies
• Electrical Engineering Manager of Underground Coal Mines Practising Certificate (highly regarded)
• 4 years’ experience working at an underground coal mine, either in a trade or engineering capacity
• Possess a working knowledge of Mine Winders
• Possess a working knowledge of Gas Drainage Plants
• Possess a working knowledge of Main Ventilation Fans
• High level of interpersonal skills. 
• Ability to work in a team environment. 
• Ability to participate in risk assessments and manage risk 
• Strong commitment to safety as a way of life
