About the role

We are offering people interested in native flora and fauna a genuinely exciting opportunity to join us as a Survey Delivery Advisor in our Pilbara Environment and Cultural Knowledge team (PECK). This Perth based opportunity involves occasional site travel but there is flexibility if you want to spend more time on country learning from biological experts and Traditional Owners.

The Pilbara Environment and Cultural Knowledge team has a really important role in the identification and preservation of the native flora and fauna in the Pilbara region, where our Rio Tinto Iron Ore mines operate. Experience is not essential in environmental surveys, this is a development role we are offering. This is an opportunity to join a friendly and supportive team, who can help you learn about relevant legislation, technical guides and how to apply them to Pilbara-focused environmental approvals.

Reporting to the Superintendent - Survey Delivery PECK and working in a collaborative and exciting environment within our State Agreements and Approvals team you will learn to and eventually independently;

  • Lead biological surveys in remote Pilbara areas
  • Undertake effective survey planning including health and safety, scheduling, site mobilisation and logistics for environmental consultants
  • Effectively apply the steps of Rio Tinto contractor management
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of biological assessment methods, processes and technologies to ensure continuous improvement
  • Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders and external technical specialists
  • Provide procurement support through the vendor identification, selection and procurement processes, performance management process
  • Contribute toward an inclusive culture through collaboration with peers across the broader Environmental Approvals team

To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • A commitment to the safety and wellbeing of yourself and your team
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills coupled with an ability to think on your feet and make quick rational decisions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to quickly develop positive and robust relationships with stakeholders
  • Exposure using technical software e.g. GIS/ ArcGIS
  • Ability to work flexibly in a high-paced role, managing deliverables and stakeholders whilst maintaining autonomy and self-motivation
