ABOUT GM³ and IMC

On 29th August 2024, Illawarra Metallurgical Coal (IMC) ownership changed from South32 to Gear M Illawarra Met Coal Pty Ltd trading as GM3. For an interim period between September 2024 to February 2025, South32 will continue to provide recruitment services on behalf of GM³. GM3 is an emerging Australian metallurgical coal mining entity owned by global investment entity Golden Energy and Resources (GEAR) and M Resources, a market leader in metallurgical coal industry services.

Illawarra Metallurgical Coal (IMC) produces premium quality, hard coking coal for steelmaking, which is transported within Australia and around the world. We operate two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and a logistics chain.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This is a Permanent position based at the Appin mine which is, near the coastal city of Wollongong, NSW, and approximately 75 kilometres southwest of Sydney. 

As the Surveyor, you will be responsible for providing accurate and timely survey control and support to mine operation and projects, ensuring compliance to the site Health & Safety Management System and relevant statutory legislation.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Maintain accurate survey control across the site and ensure compliance with regulations
  • Create survey plans to support operations and projects
  • Provide weekly/monthly survey updates and assist with reporting
  • Maintain survey equipment and assist with underground model

ABOUT YOU 

  • Experience in mining is desirable but not essential
  • A strong work ethic, self-motivated and good attention to detail
  • Proficient with AutoCAD software and familiar with Leica survey equipment

Qualifications for this position are: 

  • Formal Survey qualifications; Bachelor or Diploma in Surveying, or equivalent
