About the Role

New South Wales Energy Coal consists of the Mt Arthur Coal open-cut energy coal mine in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia. Following an extensive two-year review process, in June 2022, BHP announced that it will retain Mt Arthur Coal (MAC) in its portfolio and would seek to obtain relevant approvals beyond the current mining consent (which expires in 2026) as part of a responsible process to cease mining in 2030. We are currently seeking an experienced Mine Surveyor to join our team, which has an exceptional culture where success is celebrated, and work/life balance is valued. Reporting to the Principal Surveyor within the Resources Team, your role will be to support the site’s production, planning, project, geology, environmental and closure needs through the timely delivery of survey information and support. In the Mine Surveyor role you will show strong engagement, leadership and communication to manage our stakeholders and provide direction and coordination of the survey team in their daily responsibilities. The role on offer is on an even-time lifestyle roster.

In this role you will:

  • Allocate / schedule tasks to the survey team. 
  • Capture, calculate and report stockpile volumes. 
  • Capture incident surveys and prepare plans.
  • Collect and manage survey information in relation to water, misfires, boreholes, buried services, waste tyre disposal and hazards.
  • Provide support in the set-out of designs required to achieve the mine plan; ensure compliance and manage hazards.
  • Capture of mining areas as required to accurately report on design compliance and coal inventory.
  • Calculate End of Month waste volumes and compile and report key production metrics.  
  • Conduct routine monitoring surveys to support geotechnical and dam safety requirements.
  • Assist the Principal Mine Surveyor with statutory survey requirements.
  • Support the Geospatial team in the supply and management of data for the operations Geographic Information System (GIS).  

Through this role, there is also an opportunity to gain exposure to the reconciliation of contractor volume claims and the management of statutory boundaries and associated requirements between our operation and Mt Arthur South. You will have an opportunity to use the latest UAV technology in the capture of rehabilitation and thermal survey data to support the managed transition to mining closure and beyond.

About You

  • Hold tertiary qualification in Surveying.
  • Have 3+ years’ experience in large-scale open cut mining.
  • Be a Registered Mine Surveyor with the BOSSI or eligible (highly regarded) or be a candidate with BOSSI progressing to Certificate of Competency. 
  • Hold a Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) for Multi-rotor (25kg), with experience in the use of UAV for photogrammetry capture and processing (highly regarded).
  • Possess a valid Australia Driver’s Licence.
