About the roleWe have an opportunity for a Systems Engineer to join the Control Systems Engineering team within the Rolling Stock Maintenance division in Dampier (7 Mile).A self-motivating individual with good communication, who prioritises safety is essential. The role would see you join a small electrical and control system engineering team who are responsible for maintenance engineering across a broad asset group in RTIO Railways Division, including the Rolling Stock Maintenance machine shop, fixed plant assets, locomotives, AutoHaul systems and compressor brake cars.This role is a great opportunity for an engineer who has a strong background in control systems engineering and a keen interest in networking. To resolve complex controls issues whilst also working closely on Information and Operational Technology (IT/OT) projects.
Working an attractive 5:2 - 4:3 dayshift only roster and reporting to the Senior Electrical & Control Systems Engineer within the Rail Rolling Stock Maintenance division in Dampier (7 Mile), you will be responsible for:
- Maintenance of production critical IT/OT systems
- Partnering with Rio Tinto Information System and Technology teams to deliver IT infrastructure improvement projects within the Rolling Stock Maintenance division
- Providing control systems technical support to various stakeholders
- Participating in Critical Risk Management (CRM) to support assessment of fatality prevention controls
- Leading and facilitating process incident/major failure investigation
- Leading and supporting defect elimination projects in the
- Leading and supporting process improvement and cost reduction projects
About you
To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:
- Control Systems or Mechatronics engineering qualification, or equivalent formal tertiary qualification, with relevant demonstrated experience in control systems and IT systems
- Experience with a range of PLC and SCADA systems (Schneider Unity, CitectSCADA, Siemens Step7, TiaPortal, WinCC, Wonderware or others)
- Experience with Numeric Controllers and/or Siemens CNC machines
- Knowledge of Functional Safety principles
- Experience with SQL, windows servers and IT Infrastructure Configuration and Maintenance
- Knowledge of IP networking concepts such as protocols, subnetting, routing, switching and firewalling
- Database development and management
- The ability to communicate effectively, work and interact with others in a dynamic environment
- Manual C Class Driver's Licence
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Cisco CCNA certification or similar will be highly regarded
- Extensive experience with Siemens PLC’s & Drives will be highly regarded
- Experience developing, implementing, promoting and monitoring processes and systems
- Railway industry experience is preferred, however not essential
Where you will be working
This role will be offered on a 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off residential roster in Karratha or FIFO from Perth. We operate 200locomotives on more than 1,700 kilometres of track in the Pilbara, transportingore from 16 mines to four port terminals. The average return distance ofthese trains is about 800 kilometres with the average journey cycle, includingloading and dumping, taking approximately 40 hours.
