Cadia is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 klms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Who we’re looking for  

The Tailings Management Professional provides leadership to a team of engineers and subject matter experts to oversee the design, and monitoring of the Cadia Tailings Storage and water dam facilities.  

Drawing from your on-site engineering experience, you will prioritise safety and ensure that the construction of Tailings Dam Facilities is completed with the highest integrity, adhering closely to the the global international standard for tailings management.

We would consider a senior engineer who has technical or operational experience around dams who is ready to step up into a superintendent role and move into the Dam governance space.

The Tailings Management Professional will be committed to ensuring continuity and growth within the teams’ capabilities by way of mentoring engineers, sharing knowledge and developing the next generation of leaders in tailings management.  

Key responsibilities:

  • Undertake regular reviews & audits of TSFs and water storage infrastructure related management controls, procedures & practices
  • Develop the strategic plan and budget for tailings management and water storage structures assurance program.
  • Ensure the General Manager and Senior Leadership Team are kept informed of current and emerging risks relating to tailings and water management.
  • Key input to studies for future storage options for tailings dams and water storage facilities.
  • Monitoring of the existing dam structures on site, including water holding dams and similar constructions to ensure that the integrity of all structures remains uncompromised.
  • Liaison with the government statutory and inspection bodies to ensure compliance and build strong working relationships with each of these key stakeholders.
  • Development of documentation to capture the design, assumptions and detail of the construction methodologies applied during construction of all tailing’s facilities on the site.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership qualities and communication skills, capable of effectively influencing and negotiating with key stakeholders.

You will also possess the following: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering or similar related discipline – Essential
  • Post Graduate qualifications in a Tailings and dam engineering, Water related discipline are preferred. 
  • Current membership with AusIMM, Engineers Australia , ANCOLD, or comparable recognised professional engineering association – Essential
  • experience in geotechnical/dams engineering, geotechnical monitoring , dam construction , dam QAQC and operation in an on-site capacity – Essential (OCE or QM experience considered).
  • Knowledge of GISTM, ANCOLD, ICOLD, MAC and other industry guidelines relating to tailings and water storage management.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory and/or industry guidelines relating to water management.
  • Demonstrated experience in participating in technical review panels.
  • Experience in building effective working relationships with industry regulators and statutory authorities.
