The Role
We are seeking a motivated Tailings Facility Engineer to support our at our Telfer Mine Site with the safe operation, monitoring and construction of the Tailings Storage Facility. This role will have an emphasis on maintaining safe standards, mitigating material hazard and ensuring procedures are implemented correctly.
Roster: 8 days on 6 days off roster
As a Geotechnical specialist for the Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF), you will be trusted to assist the Tailings Principal and Specialist by providing technical support and services for mitigating geotechnical material hazards to the TSFs, ensure geotechnical systems and procedures are implemented, employed and maintained, and identify TSFs improvement through problem solving, innovation and technology. As well as monitor, inspect and report on various responsibilities including:
- Status of tailings storage facilities by collating and summarising data attained through; inspections and observations, seismic monitoring, deformation monitoring (satellite (InSAR)), radar, survey prisms, drone surveys, piezometer network, deposition, etc.
- Collect geotechnical monitoring data, ensure that the data is reliable and timely available to specified standards
- Coordinate with Open Pit Geotech team installation and maintenance of the monitoring systems and assist in trouble shooting critical monitoring instrumentation
- Ensure impromptu inspections and reporting on instances of failures or TARP triggers, daily reports on monitoring is completed,
- Weekly reporting on monitoring as specified above are completed and reconciliation of recorded as built is compared against design
- Ensure clearly concise documentation communicating outcomes from your TSF inspections and reports are provided to the appropriate stakeholders.
- Ensure tailings management plan, OMS and procedures are implemented, employed, and maintained through periodic and impromptu inspections
- Drive and oversee several key studies and projects include life of mine tailings plans, TSF construction and design.
- Be responsible for training and development of Operational Technicians, Geotechnical Monitoring Technicians and Emergency Response.
About You
We are seeking an individual who has extensive exposure to the Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF), who consistently applies their skills and qualities to monitor, inspect, report all adverse conditions, you are trusted to mitigate all instances of failures.
- Tertiary Qualification in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering or prior experience with similar dam types present on site.
- Experience with tailings life of mine plans, operation, monitoring, construction and design
- C class Manual License
- SAP knowledge
- Full Working rights within Australia
