About the role

We are looking for a Team Leader - Facilities who will lead a small team of maintenance professionals responsible for both preventative & reactive maintenance across a range of town and mine assets including residential housing, accommodation villages, commercial lease properties, site buildings and other non-process mine infrastructure.

This role is a great opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person who can support the Facilities & Services team and work efficiently across a number of areas to ensure the facilities asset portfolio is maintained appropriately. Working a 5 day Monday to Friday day shift roster and reporting to the Superintendent – Facilities & Services, you will be:

  • Leading and mentoring a team of 3 direct report contractor supervisors responsible for trades and grounds-based maintenance;
  • Present at contractor pre-starts to provide guidance and coaching in the use of the Rio Tinto safety systems.
  • Implementing and driving leading for safety systems and improvements with both your team and key contracting partners;
  • Coaching and mentoring contracting partners in RT health and safety systems including pre-starts, risk assessments and leadership field time;
  • Accountable for the integration of the contractors into the RTA SHMS (Safety & Health Management System) within your area of responsibility.
  • Working closely with the services contractors for facilities and vegetation maintenance to ensure contract compliance in Weipa township, Weipa Operations and at Amrun mine
  • Responsible for ensuring a PM plan is in place for Rio Tinto accommodation facilities and their associated infrastructure.
  • Managing multiple maintenance cost centres, including budget planning, with a keen focus on active cost management - contributing to the financial success of the Rio Tinto Weipa business.

What you will bring

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • A trade qualification, or significant experience in the industry with a building or construction background
  • The ability to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders at different levels
  • A keen eye for detail and a pro-active approach to cost management
  • An ability to work with a large degree of autonomy, while ensuring a consistent approach in alignment with a broader team goal
  • Previous experience with SAP will be highly beneficial
